"Is she alright?" Aziraphale asked breathlessly. He watched, starstruck as Tracy quickly wrapped the shivering newborn in a fuzzy pink blanket. "She's alright Aziraphale." Tracy said as she held up the still crying bundle so he could see.
Tears streamed from Aziraphale's eyes as he saw his little daughter for the first time. Her tiny chubby face was scrunched up with frustration and fear and her eyes were tightly shut. She clenched her fists tightly as she feebly squirmed and thrashed, as if she were trying to escape from Tracy. She wailed when Tracy refused to let her go. She was absolutely beautiful. "Don't cry my darling.....everything is going to be okay now....." Aziraphale rasped, hoping to reassure her. He couldn't bear to see her so upset.....
Tracy then turned to Crowley, "Crowley, would you like to cut the umbilical cord so she can get washed? Also, I think she's anxious to return to her Papa."
Crowley had been awestruck from the moment he heard the baby let out her first breath, followed by her desperate cry for warmth. She was the most beautiful little being he had ever seen. He wanted so desperately to fulfill his newborn daughter's request but for some reason he was frozen to the spot. Fortunately, Tracy was already ready with a blanket and the baby was quickly bundled up but she was still crying.
Tracy's question finally spurred the demon into action, but not before he gave his husband a quick kiss after he made sure Aziraphale was lying down as comfortably as possible. "I'll be right back Angel."
Crowley cut the umbilical cord despite his hands trembling uncontrollably. When that task was done, Crowley nearly discorporated when Tracy said, "Now it's time for you to wash her off." The demon tensed. That would mean he would have to hold her......
Crowley clenched his fists and shook head, "No no no, I can't. I shouldn't. She's so small and fragile....what if I drop her or-"
Tracy cut him off, "None of that now! You're more than ready Crowley, now hold out your hands."
Crowley gazed down at the still crying baby in Tracy's arms. She was covered in blood and other bodily fluids and was in need of a bath.
Crowley held out his hands as Tracy passed him the baby. Crowley stopped trembling almost instantly once he pulled the infant close to his chest.
"Hey, hey, shhhhh, it's okay my darling. You're safe here. I'm here with you. I'm your Daddy." The baby stopped crying within seconds and seemed to be soothed by her father's voice. She stopped squirming and unclenched her fists as she visibly relaxed.
Crowley suddenly realized that all of his six thousand years of existence had been preparing him for this very moment.
And he was ready.
"Let's get you cleaned up, love."
Aziraphale watched, tears still falling, as Crowley gave their daughter her very first bath.
Seeing Crowley hold their daughter for the very first time was the most amazing thing the angel had ever seen. And it was the most beautiful Crowley had ever looked, gazing down at the baby with his eyes filled with unwavering love.
"Oh my God, angel, her hair is curly!" They had both seen that the baby had a full head of dark red hair and as Crowley washed her hair and dried it, it revealed itself to be glorious red curls.
"Really?" Aziraphale rasped blinking tears from his eyes.
Crowley's voice cracked as he cleaned the baby's wings. "Her wings are so tiny, Angel...."
"What color are they?" Aziraphale rasped. He had only gotten a brief glimpse of one....
Before Crowley could answer, a pain shot through Aziraphale. "Ungh...."
"Aziraphale?" Crowley whirled around and dashed back to his husband's side, holding the baby close.
"What's wrong?"
"It's time for him to deliver the after birth, my dear, it's perfectly normal." Tracy reassured.
Crowley reached out and clasped his husband's hand as Aziraphale let out a grunt, only to fall back onto the bed with a ragged gasp of relief.
"Well done Aziraphale!" Tracy praised. "Now I'll see to this mess while you welcome your little one, and I'll have Shadwell get the scale ready....." It was only natural for new parents to know how much their newborn weighed and their measurements. She hoped that Shadwell didn't forget the tape measure....
