August 2025 - Sawyer POV
"Babe." I catch my breath and squeeze my eyes shut.
Makena pulls away from me, "What's up? Why do you have your thinking face on?"
I sigh, "I'm just. I'm going to miss you. Can you just come to UCLA with me?"
She smiles and leans down, capturing my lips, "I love you. I'm going to miss you so much. But no, I can't, I'm staying here and going to UCSD. We're going to see each other almost every weekend. You're going to crush at UCLA. Okay? Are you anxious?"
I play with her fingers that are intertwined with mine and nod, "Very."
She sighs and runs her other hand through my hair, "What are you anxious about?"
I stare at her, "Not being good enough. What if I like fail all of my classes or suck on the pitch? What if I can't make friends? Everyone expects me to be great because of momma."
"Oh babe. You're going to be just fine. Your momma got you a tutor right? She will go to all of your classes, make sure you're okay. You have a therapist and an OT to help you out. Remember what your momma says?"
I smile, "I'm good enough. Forget everyone else."
She smiles, "Forget everyone else. You're good enough for momma, pops, Charlie, Noah, and me."
I nod, "Still going to miss you."
"Well...let's get back to what we were doing." She starts kissing down my neck.
"Mmm..yep, let's do that.." I moan.
"When will your family be home?" She whispers.
"We have time." I feel her hand start to wander.
"Cool." She breathes.
Alex POV
"Yeah I'll send you everything. Her schedule and her records so that you're all set."
"Okay great. Bree said she's a great kid, so I'll just get to know her and go from there." Dr. Shaw says.
I smile, "She's the best, I'm just worried how this transition will go."
"We will support her through it. I'll see you guys next week!"
"Great, thank you!" I hang up and sigh.
I look in the mirror and see Noah sleeping soundly.
He's only 16 months, but he already has an attachment to Sawyer too.
I look out the window and see Charlie sprinting out of school.
I open the door and quickly intercept her, "Woah baby, you have to wait for your teacher!"
"Can't wait, need to get home to see Sawyer."
I sigh. Charlie has been especially attached to Sawyer since realizing that she is moving out next week to head to college.
"Charlie, she's not leaving until next week, you have six days left with her. And we talked about this, she's only going to Los Angeles. That's where papa lives. It's not far, we will see her a lot." I hug her.
'Am I convincing Charlie or myself?'
She nods, "But she won't be right down the hallway, momma! Who will cuddle with her if she's scared or nervous?"
I smile, "Maverick will protect her like he always has. She will FaceTime us when she needs us."
She grabs my hand and pulls me to the car, "Want to go home, momma."
