Sawyer POV - one week later
"Can I see that one?" I ask.
The woman smiles, "Sure thing."
She pulls the ring out and I grab it from her, "Whoa."
"I like that one, baby." Momma says.
I nod, "Me too. Think Makena will like it?"
She rubs my arm, "She will love it."
I stare at it and bite my lip.
"Whats wrong, baby?"
"I just- is she going to say no?" I ask, my insecurities seeping in.
"You guys are in a good place, I think she will say yes. And if she says no, hear her out, okay?"
I nod.
I look down at my parents rings and hold my mom's engagement ring.
"Do you think my mom would like this ring?"
She sighs, "It looks a lot like her engagement ring so I think so. I think she is happy that you're happy and that's what matters."
I nod, "I wish that she was here."
She smiles sadly, "She is watching over you, baby. Don't forget that."
I wrap my hand around the rings and let out a breath.
"That was a beautiful ring you have there." The woman says.
My head snaps up and I nod, "Thank you."
"Whose were they?"
I look down at the rings, "Um, my parents. They um died when I was little."
She frowns, "Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that."
I bob my head up and down, "It's okay."
"If you want, I can quick clean their rings so they're nice and clean, really shine when you propose to the lucky woman." She says.
I just stare at the rings and don't say anything.
Momma speaks up, "That's really nice. She doesn't really like to give them-"
"I'd actually like that, if um, uh, I don't have to leave them here, right?" I ask.
She shakes her head, "You can watch me."
Momma rubs my shoulder and I pull the chain up around my neck.
I stare at the rings and hand them over to her.
She turns around and grabs some things, then turns back, pulling the rings off of the chain.
"Do you know how they met?"
I smile and nod, "At the beach. My mom was a total beach girl. My dad nearly took her out with his skateboard. It started there."
She chuckles, "That's cute and unique."
I chuckle and nod.
"How long were they married?" She asks.
I bite my lip, "Um, six years."
Momma wraps her arm around me, "They still have each other."
I look down.
"Do you know if their engagement story is as unique as how they met?" The woman asks.
I sigh, "I'm um not sure."
"We can try to look through the rest of the storage unit, you haven't been there in a while." Momma says.
