Sawyer POV - three months later

"Wow, look at you, Sawyer!" Soph calls.

I look up from the treadmill, and smile.

She gives me a thumbs up, "You're running!"

I nod and turn down the speed.

"Yeah, I got cleared to do it! Still limitations though."

She nods, "But you're getting there. You going to practice with us?"

I nod, "Light training, more plyometrics."

"That's good at least."

I sigh and nod, "When do you leave for camp?"

She smiles, "Next week."

I bob my head, "You're going to crush it."

She sighs, "I wish you were coming with."

I look down at my knee, "Yeah, me too. But I can't."

"You'd definitely get the golden boot if you were." She says.

I shrug, "Maybe."

"Not maybe. You're going to get back to where you were. You're going to come back even better."

I nod, "Hopefully."

She sighs, "I have to run to class, but hang later?"

I nod and watch as she walks off.

"Alright, Sawyer, shut it down."

I turn and see Michelle, one of the trainers.

I shake my head, "I can go longer."

She sighs, "No, baby steps, remember?"

"I'm fucking sick of baby steps. I can run!" I say.

She shakes her head, "Not yet. Look, what happens if you go too quickly? You want to know?"

I sigh.

"You fuck up your leg even worse and you never play again, alright? So just please listen. Don't make me tattle on you to coach that you're not listening because we both know she will go straight to your momma."

My eyes widen and I look down, then shut the machine off.

I get off of the treadmill and sigh.

She pats my head, "I know you're impatient, but you have to be patient with this."

I huff and follow her.

I get onto a table and she starts stretching my leg.

I whine when she bends my knee and she looks at me, "That hurts?"

My eyes widen and I shake my head.

"Don't lie to me." She says pointedly.

I sigh and nod, "A little, like it's just sore."

She nods, "Okay, stim then ice."

I nod and sit up while she hooks up the stim.

My phone buzzes and I see that it's momma.

"Hello?"

"Hey baby! Hi Sawyer!" I hear momma and Charlie.

I smile, "Hi!"

"Sawyer! We're coming to bring you home!" Be there in an hour momma says!" Charlie yells.

I chuckle, "Yeah, I know! I already packed!"

"We can have sleepovers every night, Sawyer!"

I nod to myself, "Yep! We can, when I'm not staying at Makena's!"
