Alex POV - Thanksgiving 2028

"How's she doing?" My mom asks me.

I turn from watching Sawyer do yoga in the back to her, "She's okay. Yoga every morning, trying to keep herself calm, going to therapy every day."

"Sounds like some good steps, baby."

I bob my head up and down, "They're great steps, but she's not herself. She's so sad, subdued. Crying herself to sleep."

She nods solemnly, "Well, her and Makena were together for a long time. Break ups are hard."

I nod, "I didn't think Makena would do that."

"Baby, she's doing what's best for her and it looks like this break is kicking Sawyer's butt in gear." She says.

I nod, "But she may put in all of this work and Makena decide that she's permanently done with their relationship. I don't know if Sawyer could handle that."

"We will figure it out and we will be there for her, no matter what happens." She says.

I give her a soft smile and turn to watch as Sawyer finishes and walks inside.

"Morning, baby." My mom says to her.

"Morning." Sawyer says and walks to the cabinet, grabbing her medication case and emptying the one labeled THURSDAY into her hand.

"That case has been helpful for you remembering, huh?" I ask.

She gives me a thumbs up as she swallows down her meds.

She picks up her phone and looks at it, sighing.

She sets it back down, "I'm going to take Mav down to the beach."

I sigh, "Okay, just be back in an hour. I need your help."

She gives me a tight lipped smile and turns to leave, but stops.

She turns back and walks over to me wrapping her arms around me.

I squeeze her and she lets go, "Love you."

"Love you too, baby. Be back in an hour." I say.

She nods and turns to head out, "Come on, Mav."

I hear his collar jingle and the front door open then close.

I feel my mom put her arm around me, "She will be okay."

Sawyer POV

I hit the beach and walk down with Mav.

I let him off of his leash and he takes off to the water.

I bite my lip and sigh, watching the surfers out on the water.

I close my eyes and just take deep breaths.

I hear Mav barking and my eyes shoot open.

I frown when I see a girl leaning down and petting Maverick, knowing exactly who it is.

She looks up and I feel myself becoming nervous.

She grabs her board and starts walking closer.

"Hey."

Maverick licks me and sits down right next to me.

"Hi." I say.

She looks back at the water and then looks at me, "Not surfing? The waves are actually really perfect."

I sigh and shake my head, "No. I can't surf."

Her eyes widen, "What? Is it your knee?"

I look down and shake my head, "My knee is fine."
