So I just read a Franky x reader where YN actually had the "hanahaki" disease, and I actually think it was an interesting plot choice, so I'm going to see if I can use this element in this one-shot. Enjoy.

The flower disease; Hanahaki. It's caused by an unconfessed crush and it causes flowers to sprout in the affected's lungs, growing until it either kills the affected or they use one of the two cures. The cures are as followed: Surgery or confessing to the crush.

"It's getting worse." I said, speaking to the Red-Haired pirates' doctor. He shook his head. "You still haven't tried to do anything, YN? I told you the cure for Hanahaki. Have you still not confessed?" He asked, knowing this was for the betterment of my well-being. "Because I'll probably straight up die the moment I do- You know the Captain isn't going to reciprocate feelings. He's a pirate." I said, leaning on the table. "You are, too, YN, and we also can't have you dying! I know the Captain would be heartbroken then!" He said, holding his hands out. I shook my head. "Shanks'll just find a new crewmate. Anyways, there's some weirdo surgery out there I can get so this doesn't happen again." I said, smirking a little. He shook his head. "There's no good reason for you to do that when you can just straight up tell the captain-" "Yes, I know! But if he doesn't like me back then I'll die on the spot! You're the doctor around here! Didn't you read the textbook?!" I said, grabbing it and throwing it at him. He shook his head. "The captain surely won't let you down..." He muttered. "You say that." I said, storming out of the room.

Dinner time came around and I sat in the dining room in the farthest chair away from Shanks. 'It's for the better.' I thought as I leaned back on the chair. The first mate, Beckman, came down and sat across from me. "Well hey YN." He said, waving to me. I nodded. "What's up?" I asked, smirking a little. He looked around, then leaned towards me on the table. "I heard from doc what's up." He said, his expression stern. I got up and slammed my hands on the table. "Nothing is up, ok! There's nothing wrong with me, I don't know what kind of crap he's been feeding you but-" "He's not the kind to lie, YN." He cut me off. I let out a deep sigh. "Fine. What in the world am I supposed to do?" I asked, shaking my head. "I know you're against the idea, but... I think you should just tell him. I know a guy who can hook you up with that surgery if it doesn't go as planned, but you should shoot your shot, YN." He said, smiling at me. I sighed again. "Ok then, when do you suggest I do it?" I asked, frowning. "After dinner, probably. He'll usually go out to his room after that." He said, leaning back on the chair. I nodded. "Ok, but if this goes wrong it's both you and that doctor who'll be in a world of trouble." I said, glaring at him. "I'll take it." He said as people began to pour in from outside.

We ate dinner loudly as usual, except every so often I'd let out a cough and the room would go quiet. Everyone would stare at me with the look of 'are you alright?', then they'd continue eating like nothing had happened. After I finished my food I migrated to the corner of the room and I stood there, watching the liveliness that surrounded me every night. 'I don't know what I'd do without you guys.' I thought as I began to feel sentimental. "HEY YN, WHAT'RE YOU THINKIN' ABOUT!?" Shanks came up behind me. I then began to cough, arching over and the flower petals beginning to spill out of my mouth. 'Dangit, Shanks.' I thought, trying to keep myself up, Shanks watching in horror as I sank to the ground.

Once I had stopped choking, and the ground was cluttered with petals, Shanks leaned down to see what had happened. "YN! What in the world was all that?" He asked, a look of deep concern on his face. "You see-" "Hanahaki, Captain. YN isn't well." Beckman said, leaning his head on his hands. Shanks' expression changed. "YN?! You were dying and didn't tell me- What would happen if I were to lose you?" He asked, sounding genuinely concerned. I leaned up against the wall. "You'd find another YN... one who's less likely to die on you haha." I said, my voice hoarse. This took Shanks aback. "You aren't replaceable! You're the only YN I'll ever want around here! What in the world would ever make you think something like that?!" He yelled, reaching up and holding the side of my face. "I- I don't know." I said, tears beginning to fill my eyes. "Doc, how do we cure YN?" Shanks asked, looking back behind him, his hand still gently holding my cheek. I shook my head and he turned around. "I have to confess... to the one I have a crush on." I said, coughing up a few more petals. "Well then who is it?!" He yelled, clearly afraid; afraid he was going to lose me.

I shook my head. "It's you, Shanks. I love you." I said, smiling a weak smile up at him. His expression was shocked, but it turned into one of a more soft, kind look. "YN... Why didn't you say something sooner." He said, leaning down and kissing my forehead. "Well, I thought-" "You thought wrong." He said, pulling me into a deep kiss. The pirates around us cheered and hollered all at once, and one weirdo from the crowd yelled "WHEN'S THE WEDDING?!".

Shanks and I broke apart and he lifted me up into his arms. "I love you too, YN." He said, holding me tight. Just then, out of nowhere, the flowers emerged from my body; out of my arms, legs, mouth, the petals scattering everywhere until the entire room was covered in flowers. "She's cured!" Beckman and the doctor yelled in unison. I smiled at Shanks and he smiled back. "It's a good thing, too. I wouldn't be able to live without my darling YN."
