This is my first time writing a One-Shot of a female anime character, but I plan to do many more, so practice is always good, right? Requested by @George290508, thanks!
The silence on the ship deck was frightening at night, but boy, was it good to get some time to yourself. I stared off at the waves that slowly passed us by, but I heard creaking on the deck behind me. I quickly turned around to see the woman with two-toned hair who seemed to always find me when I'm out late. "Good evening, Uta." I speak, then I turn back to the waves and let the salty ocean air run over my face. "Evening, YN." She says, as she moves to go stand next to me.
Silence falls over us for a moment, but it's broken by a "How are you doing tonight?" from Uta. "Oh, I'm well. What about you?" I ask her, my gaze not meeting hers. She nods. "I'm alright. Had a long day, but I can't seem to get to sleep. You know all about that, right?" She asks, laughing a little bit, and I nod. "Yeah... but it's just 'cause my mind tends to wander at this time of night." I said, shrugging. Uta nods understandingly, then she stares at the waves with me.
She and I had been friends for a long time. We had an almost inseparable bond, but nowadays, I tend to wonder who Uta is to me.
"You know, you're a cool person, YN." She states all of a sudden. I blink a couple of times and look over at her in confusion. "Pardon?" I ask her, tilting my head at her sudden compliment. "Oh, you're just cool. I don't really use that lightly, so take it as a compliment." She says, shrugging a little bit.
I feel my cheeks warm up at her aloof behaviors. 'What in the world is this feeling?' I ask myself, 'It's like... a fluffy, warm feeling... I only get when I'm around Uta.' I scoot closer to her and let out a small, silent sigh as I stared over at her.
Silence falls over the two of us again, but it isn't an awkward silence, it's one that seems to be enjoyable for the both of us.
Seconds turn to minutes, minutes turn to hours, and Uta and I stand there, just watching the waves. Eventually, the sun starts to shine on the two of us and we give each other a glance, and both break down in laughter. "Guess we were here the whole night, huh, YN." Uta says, brushing her bangs off of the one side of her face. "Yeah. Time does pass quickly, huh." I said, shrugging a little bit.
Other members of our crew emerge from the doors on the deck. One of them calls, "Uta, we need you down here!" and she turns to me with a sigh. "Sorry, YN, gotta go. Thanks for hanging out with me, friend." She says, smiling bright. I nod as she walks away, then I sigh as I turn back to the sea. 'Friend, huh... I wish you were more to me.'
