🥺 - not sad but also a little
The evening dinner was prepared and laid out neatly, the butler had rang a bell signalling dinner. You fixed your final pieces of hair, elegantly gracing the stairs, at the bottom you saw the family of Elizabeth Swann had entered, including Elizabeth herself, and James Norrington and his mother and father. Even at his age, they still accompanied him to dinners.
It seems that he was looking better for his age, the life as a commodore was perfectly suiting him. You were proud. Proud, not in a motherly way, but in a more than friend way. You liked James... an awful lot. Every day, every evening his was in your thoughts. Wondering: is he okay?
"Ah, Y/N," the maid said. "You look stunning."
"Why, thank you. That's very kind, how are you Audrey?"
"I'm doing good thank you, let me show you to the dining room,"
"No need, I've lived here for quite a while," you gave her a gentle smile.
"Of course, apologies."
Leading yourself into the dining room, you saw your father and mother heading the table, you were positioned next to the left of your mother, with your dad on her right. Everyone else had a choice.
As conversation picked up through dinner, Norrington was making small flirtatious notions towards Elizabeth. Despite it, she seemed not so pleased with them.
"What are you doing these days, Elizabeth?" you asked her, breaking the silence.
"Well, not much to be honest. Apart from, you know..." you knew what she meant, she liked Will turner.
"Ahhh, I'm glad to hear it,"
"Thank you, how about yourself?"
"Not much, I've been wanting to go on a journey with the navy. Not as a crew member, I'm not allowed... but just to see the wide expanse of sea, have the wind in my hair," you dropped the hint, wondering if Norrington would invite you.
Despite the flirting, you never gave up on your feelings.
"Well, James is going away in a few weeks, I'm sure he wouldn't mind you coming along. Would you?"
"Oh..." he was stunned to speak. "Sure, as long as you know."
"She can go, as long as she comes back in one piece, Is well fed and doesn't ever get to hold a sword,"
Everyone laughed, and dinner carried on.
When the time came for the time to go away, you packed elegant dresses... and underneath the, trousers, shirts, and a sword. No one would know. As you waited, a knock resounded from the front door. You descended the stairs to see the commodore, waiting for you. Not in a romantic sense either. You could only dream.
The journey was in silence, the arrival was in silence. Everything was silence, and this voyage was going to be for two three weeks.
"Are you okay?" You asked breaking the silence.
"Yeah, you?"
"I'm good," you paused slightly. "Commodore..."
"Call me James, please,"
"James, how's things going with Elizabeth?"
"Besides her not loving me, like I love her. Couldn't be better,"
"I know the feeling."
You sighed, looking out to the ocean. Watching as the delicate waves lapped over each other.
"Do you have a significant other? Or potential suitor?"
"Just one... but he doesn't even know I like him, and I don't think he'd even like me,"
"What makes you say that?"
"He's already in love with someone else. I can't just ask him to unlove her,"
"Does she love him?"
"No... not in the slightest, she's in love with someone else. Isn't it just a never ending cycle," you turn to face him before resting on the railings, the wind blowing through your hair. "What?"
"Sounds like someone I know,"
"Oh... you might know him then?"
"Whats his name?"
"I don't want to mention it,"
"Why not?"
"..."
"I don't want to sound like a narcissist, but is it me?"
"No, no it's not you,"
"I don't think I'm completely convinced,"
"I didn't ask you to be."
