The evening gloom had soon set on the ocean, the darkness invaded any form of light, except for the soft glow of the moon that shone across the glossy surface. Jack stood at the helm of the ship, looking out to the sea, his arms lasily lingering over the wheel, looking steadily ahead. One bottle of rum situated in his hand. As the ship bobbed across the waters, he heard the soft singing of a girl in the waters. It sounded sad, lonely, but not afraid. Her voice was sweet like honey, so sweet it melted into his ears so easily. His whole body relaxed even more just hearing her voice.

"Is anyone there?" she called in a soft tone.

Jack placed his bottle of rum to the side, walking around the edges of the ship, until he saw the glow of a young woman, her hair shiny, and gorgeous across her visible breasts and shoulders. She smiled when she saw him. her eyes lit up like her tail illuminated the dark waters. Her hand reached and grabbed one of the rungs on the ladders in built into the ship, keeping herself held up to it. As his eyes lay on her, he felt his heart yearning for her. Many sailors had warned about the enchanting nature of the mermaids, and the sirens. How they lure you, encase you in a sense of desire for them. But, to him this felt like something different.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Y/N," she said. Jack walked along the edge of the ship unsure as to what he was doing, she swam along side of him, looking at him now and again as they did. "What's wrong?"

"What are you doing here?"

"I don't know," she sounded sorrowful in her voice, it was hardly convincing. "Why are you out alone?"

"I can never sleep, not anymore,"

"Can I come up?" she asked.

"I haven't got water, love,"

"Oh," she smiled again, clinging the ladder on the other side. "I guess you didn't realise, we can change, into human bodies when out of the water."

"I see," he peered over the railing at her, her eyes displayed a sense of longing for what seemed to be company. "Do you like rum?"

She laughed, her laugh was barely audible, as if it was something she didn't do often. "What's rum?"

"I guess we've both learned something new, love," he paused for a second, considering things. "If you can climb, you can come up."

"Really?"

"Might as well, no one will be awake for hours now," she pulled herself out of the water, revealing a gorgeous towel, pulling herself up on the rungs of the ladder.

Jack fetched a towel from his quarters, helping her over the side, and wrapping it around her body. She used the second to dry herself down, as her legs started to show through. He handed her a shirt to put over her naked body, helped her up from her feet, and took her inside his quarters, that were much warmer than outside. She sat on the edge of the bed, looking at him, she didn't threaten to hurt him or harm him. She just wanted the comfort of someone that was ready to listen. Unlike those that she knew of her own kind who wanted to hurt anyone who came into their vicinity, she too had been victim of their brutality. Now here she was, trying rum with a man she didn't know, but stretched out to her kindness.
