The black Pearl had pulled aside to the nearest beach where everyone settled onto the main stretch of beach to enjoy each other's company aside from the usual on the ship itself. There wasn't a lot of time when ensuring the ship was fully competent to keep sailing in the usual direction. Once you got off, you picked up your skirt and walked down the plank of wood, letting it down once you got the sandy beach. It was inevitable that it would get covered in sand so there seemed no necessary reason to make it an issue of holding.
Will came up behind you placing a hand on the small of your back, you turned your head to the right to see him smiling at you, the shine of the moonlight shone across his tanned face, defining his jawline and deep brown eyes.
"Y/N, can we go for a walk?"
"Yeah, of course," he kept his hand on your back as you walked together, his arm going around your waist, his hand near your hip to pull you close as you walked. "Did you just want to walk, or was there something?"
"Let's just walk for a bit," he smiled at you with just his lips, but in his eyes there seemed like something he wanted to tell you.
The longer you walked, the more far away everyone was, looking like small ants. It was scaring you how he wasn't speaking, those longer conversations you had every day had been eradicated by this silence, seeming to be insignificance. You hadn't been able to track the length of time you'd been walking.
"Will?"
"Yeah," he said, smiling. He pointed toward a log, guiding you toward it with your hand still on your back.
"What are we doing?"
"I needed to talk to you, alone. Y/N, I want to be the gentleman that you deserve and have the heart to tell you. Me and Elizabeth, as you well know have a lot of history, I loved her..."
"You still love her?" You sensed it From the pause.
"But that doesn't stop me from loving you. It never has and it never will,"
"But..."
"But, last night after you went to bed. She came onto the deck, she'd found some bottles of rum. Lord knows she despises the stuff, but we drank it anyway. We lost our inhibitions Y/N,"
"And, did what?"
"I kissed her..."
"Will," you paused, taking a deep breathe. It hurt but you understood that maybe he didn't mean it, maybe. "I want to be straight and I won't lie it hurts me to hear you say that. Okay, things happen. What does that mean now? For us, for you and Elizabeth? Are you going to tell her that it was just a one time thing and it can't happen again..."
"I need you to understand, Y/N. I love you so much, just seeing you makes me smile, you may me happy," he scratched the back of his neck, waxing his rings around his fingers. "Okay, just remember that, so that kiss we had..."
"Why? You're not... Will, you're not going to just... for that, for one thing, for that you're just going to forget I exist,"
"Y/N, it Doesn't mean I don't love you, I love you more than anyone I've ever met,"
Tears streamed down your face, your head was raised to the sky, staring at the moon as your tears fell.
"I left everything for this, for you, for us and for what?" You snapped your head toward him, staring at him with pure sadness and anger. "I don't get it. I don't get you. I don't get us. I don't get what this was. I don't know why I'm here. I don't know why you..."
He pulled you into his arms, you cried onto his shoulder before pushing him away and getting up off the log.
"No. No you don't get to comfort me when your the one who's making me cry!"
"Will you just let me finish, please..."
You carried in screaming, crying and throwing rocks from the beach into the sea. Will wiped a few tears from his ears, you hadn't let him finish what he was saying.
He watched how frantic you'd become after hearing he'd kissed Elizabeth, but you'd assumed that he was going to leave you over it, he wanted to see if you'd forgive him before he planned on his next move. How you responded proved to him that you loved him and only him. Yes, he'd kissed Elizabeth, yes he was drunk, and yes it meant something. But, you were the one he wanted to be with for the rest of his life. When your back was turned, he pulled out a ring he'd bought from there last stop, the silver band with a green emerald at the centre decorated his blacksmiths hands and as he got down on one knee.
You turned around and saw him, your heart was caught in your chest as you gasped loudly.
"I don't understand..."
"You didn't let me finish. I was going to tell you that that kiss I shared with Elizabeth was more of a drunken goodbye, of course I have feelings for her, but then there's another woman who makes me happier than anyone. She's great, she's so funny and when she smiles she does this little think where her nose shrivels up as she laughs. I want to be the one who makes you smile like that forever, even if it means that you have to put up with me,"
"Wait, so I'm that woman? Or is there someone else?"
"It's you, it's always you,"
"It's a bit of a backwards proposal," you smiled, and walked closer to him.
"So is that a yes?"
"I'm really confused but I'd think I'd be stupid to say no," he placed the ring on your finger. "I need to process this, Will."
"Maybe it wasn't the most amazing proposal,"
"Thank goodness you only have to do this once."
