Jack was up on the decks, his head focussed on the horizon as the sun set. The sky was dark and set the moon on it's usually mission to come out, decorate the decks with its glow, and shadow peace over the whole of the crew. Now it has set, the decks were glittering under the beautiful light. Jacks eyes were shining amid the lights, reflecting upon the sea.
His head was forward examining how the waves moved freely, guided by the moon. You'd been a couple for at least two months, you'd been through the mill after he'd been sent to Davy jones' locker. That grudge you held against Elizabeth still festered in your heart and burned through you. Every inch of her made you feel pure hatred, she nearly lost the one you... No. you hadn't said that yet, and Jack was slow. He still had his ways with other women, it made you jealous, and the relationship was far from perfect. You worked on it mentally, as much as you knew the things he did were unacceptable. Despite this, despite trying to forgive and forget, you knew how wrong his flirtatious, kissing, actions toward women were wrong.
As he looked ahead, his innocent blew your mind. How could one man look like he couldn't ruin you, do any harm? As you approached the deck, he didn't have an unwavering gaze. He knew you were there, but his eyes remained straight ahead. Seemingly emotionless, there was a small crack of a tear in the corner of his eye.
"Why do I keep doing it?" he asked you.
"Do what?"
"You know what I mean... I hear your muffled crying every night, love," his dirty finger wiped away the tear from his eye, turning his gaze and attention around to you. "I'm really sorry. I'm trying really hard."
"Jack, for years you've never settled down to one woman. I'm being patient... because,"
"Because what?"
"You know..." you didn't want to say it just in case he wasn't feeling the same way.
"I love you Y/N,"
You were stunned. "One more time? What did you just say, Jack?"
"You know what I said, I love you, love,"
"I love you too Jack," you were pulled into a war, embrace. "We need to do something about that smell."
"Baby steps, Y/N. I'm an imperfect man,"
"I'm joking, I'm sure I smell the same by now,"
"You're too beautiful for me to be bothered,"
"One more time? Say that again,"
"Shut up."
You both laughed and embraced each other, your head snuggled into his chest as you watched the ocean in front of you both. This was the life you never knew you needed, even if it was a high maintenance one.
