Jack stood on the edge of his ship, holding onto the rigging that kept him steady on the wood.
"We'll be arriving at Tortuga in a matter of hours, love,"
"How did you know I was here?"
He smiled, it was a mocking, annoyed smile. He was annoyed with you. Last night you had a conversation you regretted almost instantly. There was no going back on your decision.

LAST NIGHT
Jack held your waist, pulling you closer to him. The smell of rum on his breath and the dirt on his body was an intoxicating combination. This closeness had been happening for week. He kissed just underneath your chin, lightly. It tickled, making you laugh. He smiled at your innocence sometimes.
"Jack," he carried on kissing you lightly. "Jack, please... you're making this harder."
"What?" he suddenly stopped, the affection draining out of him, his lips lingering on your neck. The warmth surrendered into your skin, leaving you in anticipation. That was no more.
Those words were immediately regretted.
"I need to stop this, before we get to Tortuga,"
"What do mean, love? Is it because we're going to Tortuga?"
"Yes, and no,"
"I'd ask if it's me, but that's never true," he grinned, pushing your waist away from him. "What?"
He grabbed a bottle of rum, taking a large swig, sitting on a chair by his desk covered in maps. Instead of standing, you perched yourself on the edge of the bed, his hand grasping your knee.
"I don't want to do this. Im going to be staying in Tortuga,"
"Well, we all will. We'll be staying there for a few days,"
"No. Jack. I mean, I'm not coming back to the ship,"
His eyes saddened, lowering to the ground. More and more rum tipped down his neck, not even making a dent into the dark mass in his heart. A void dug deeper into his emotion, cutting through the love for you he'd developed. He swiped all the mapping equipment to the floor in an aggressive motion, leaning his elbow on the desk.
You got up and left the room, letting the tears decorate your skin in relentless patterns. The night was a long one, filled with painful memories of what love once was, and what love you'd destroyed. It had to be done.
—
"They call it intuition,"
"Jack, look... I'm—"
"Save it, love. You've made your decision, and that's it, isn't it?"
"Yeah, yeah you're right,"
"Good. It's for the best then, isn't it?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, if you didn't betray me now, it would have come later? Savvy?"
