The days were gone when things were easy. As a child you'd run around on the beaches or on the decks or a ship. Now, things were different. You were more aware of your surroundings, the dangers and your own emotions. The feeling of loving someone had always betrayed you. Always. And, it wasn't because you were too loving, you just loved the wrong people.

Now, here you were, sat on the edge of the railings of the Queen Anne's revenge. Only a few people were awake, but they weren't bothered about you. Scrum had become like a best friend, or a brother to you. He was fascinated by mermaids and wanted to kiss one. No matter how much you tried to convince him he wouldn't back away from his interest.

He sat beside you, feeling the breeze of the sea on your bare ankles, holding down your skirt.

"Scrum, you know how I have that thing for sparrow?"

"Yeah..."

"Well, do you think he likes me too?"

"It's hard to say, I mean, Y/N he seems to be into Angelica,"

"He knows he's not going to get anywhere as long as Blackbeard is alive,"

"It doesn't stop sparrow, Y/N and you know it. I hate having to tell you,"

"It's okay," he started strumming on his instrument, singing sea shanties. "Scrum?"

"Yeah," he paused his singing. "Do you think I should tell him? Tell him, loving you is hard."

"You love him?"

"I've known him for years, I've loved him for a little while. I loved him as a friend first, then unnoticed how attractive he was. And now he's not out of my head."

He shook his head and carried on singing, you sighed and allowed yourself to relax and listen to his singing. He was a good singer. Jack burst out of the decks from below with Angelica, kissing her. You firmly placed your hands on the railings, wanting to see if the sea would love you instead. Despite this, you stayed where you were with scrum. His hand on your knee as a form of comfort, ignoring the childish giggling that burned your ears.

You just needed to accept that you weren't her.
