god

god stabbed me in the back.

he shoved a knife in my flesh,
twisted the blade between my bones,
held me tight and whispered:

'this is when you kneel.
this, right here,
is when you believe me.'

he laid me gently on the cold
ground, as a father would a son,
and looked into my eyes.

'this moment, right now,
is when you know i'm the big
and undeniable deal.'

i thrashed and wailed and
refused to obey and accept,
but i knew i had asked for it.

god stabbed me in the back.

he guided me to where you stood,
smiling and laughing under the sun,
held me tight and whispered:

'this is when you kneel.
this, right here,
is when you believe me.'
