I woke up the next morning feeling nothing, no one's arms around my body. I look over to the other side of my bed to see Chris not present. I thought that he would be here to say goodbye to me when I leave. I sigh as I looked at my clock on the wall above my bed to see that there is 1 hour left until I leave.
My day just seems to be getting worse by the minute. I drag my skinny and slender body out of bed and start to put on my Battle Uniform. The Government has always issued every Quarantine Zone a Uniform for everyday training and a Uniform for Going Into Battle. As much as I just want to stay in my regular everyday Uniform than wearing a whole new outfit.
I walked over to the mirror and started to put to side of my hair into a braid and left the rest of my hair alone. I looked at myself and just thought that after today, everything will not be the same. I also know that saying goodbye to Chris will not be easy. he would leave and not say goodbye to me.
I look back at the clock and see that I have approximately 30 minutes until the departure. I decide that I try to find Chris before it's time to go. I grab my backpack, not knowing if I will come back or not and I finally open the door and step out of my cabin.
The light shined against my skin due to the fact that I haven't been outside for the past 2 days. I saw everyone at the moment, happy to see me come out of my cabin. I continued to walk around to find Chris. I hear the 15 minute warning for the soldiers going to the Boarder.
I start to panic as I try to find Chris faster. Time was running out quickly and I feel myself starting to breakdown. I wiped away the tears and I try to reach in my backpack for my anti-depressants and poured 3 in my hand and swallowed them with a sip of water from my bottle.
I felt some of the pressure go away but the tears kept coming down my face. Then the 1 minute warning come on over the intercom. I officially lost all hope into saying my final goodbyes to Chris. I can't believe that he would up and leave without saying goodbye to me.
And to think, he saved my life and he just leaves me like that. I'll take my anger out later, now I have a War to win. I walked to the Checkpoint to see everyone who was picked to be drafted. They all started to bow before me and clap.
"At Ease" I said,
Everyone stopped what they were doing and started to go into 3 groups. We all said our last and final goodbyes to the Guards who are protecting the perimeter. At least they get a goodbye.
Carrying my gun, my bow and arrow hung behind my back, I focus on winning. This battle could be the turning point of the War. If we keep wining the battles, the sooner the War will be over.
I felt the person next to me shift and someone that I haven't seen before walked beside me. The person looked familiar, but I can't tell who it is. I pushed the thought aside and concentrated on walking.
"Psst. Alli" The person next to me whispered,
I turned and gave him a glare, only Chris calls me Alli. I reached for my knife, getting ready to probably slit his neck. But then, I looked into his eyes. I can't be. It is.
I put my knife away with my mouth open wide, Chris. He came. But how? I was so happy at the moment, words can't describe it. I looked at him and saw a stupid mustache on his face. I chuckled as I pulled the mustache off of his face, he made a small yelp in pain as I threw the fake mustache on the ground.
We were in 30 minutes in the journey and close to the Boarder, when Chris started to hum a familiar tune. The only thing you could hear was the Soldiers footsteps and Chris humming. Just then everyone joined in on the humming.
Before I knew it, Chris started to sing "Soon"
The deer come out every morning, some might even say,
Only to be killed at the end of the day,
Nobody ever thought that it would be this way,
The end will be soon, we all would be doomed.
But then came a Rabbit, so cute and quite petite,
Only to be killed by hanging from his feet,
Nobody ever thought that it would be this way,
The end will be soon, we all would be doomed.
Then the rest of the soldiers joined in, including me.
But then came a Bear, so big and strong,
Only to be killed by a shot to it's heart,
Nobody ever thought of it would be this way,
The end will be soon, we all would be doomed,
And lastly came The Infected, so dirty, grim, and old,
Only to be killed by an Army of a Whole,
Nobody ever thought of it would be this way,
the end will be soon, we all would be doomed
As soon as we finished the song, we heard angry groaning and moaning. The Infected. They're here. I aimed my gun and pulled the trigger and started to shoot as many of The Infected as I can.
Gunfire went everywhere. Despite all of that, The Infected started to charge at us. Chris grabbed my hand and we dashed to the nearest tree and climbed to the tallest branch. Chris held my arm as I was reloading my gun to shoot at some more. My gun wasn't really doing the trick, I have to use my knife to kill them. Chris' gun wasn't working either, he pulled out his pocket knife and looked at me.
"I always loved those beautiful blue eyes of yours Alli." Chris said,
"I always loved your sharp wit and your hilarious jokes." I said,
"When I say Jump, we both jump and kill as many as we can. Don't leave my sight." I said, ready to jump out.
"Ready." Chris said, "Jump." And we both lunged out of the tree and started to stab The Infected. I watched as Chris stabbed one but then got dragged away by one of them.
"CHRIS!" I yelled, scared that he is going to be bitten. I dashed into his direction. I heard many gunshots still going off and the groaning of The Infected from the distance.
"ALICE!" I hear, Chris.
"CHRIS WHERE ARE YOU?" I yelled, Nothing came back.
I ran towards the direction his scream from before, determined to find Chris. I can't imagine what they are doing to him. Just then, I felt someone drag me to the ground, making my gun fell out of my hand. At first I thought it was a pair of human hands, but it wasn't.
It was one of them. It tried to bite my neck, but I put my arm against it's chest, preventing it from biting me. I tried to reach for my gun but it was too far from my grasp. The creature was starting to over-power my strength.
I then felt a very sharp and agonizing in my collarbone and I started to scream in absolute pain. I pushed the creature off of me and grabbed my gun and began to shoot the rest of my ammo in my pistol. The horrid unholy thing fell limp as I realized the horrible truth. I've been bitten.
I touched my neck to see blood, a lot of it, pouring out of the wound and onto my clothes. I started to feel dizzy from losing so much blood. I laid down in the grass and thought about all of the things I accomplished in my life. Meeting the right guy, Taking part in the Revolution, but most of all, making my Dad proud till this very moment.
The pain starts to burn in my veins as the world I once lived in now starts to fade away. If only Chris was next to me, dying like I am right now, then it would be great. I always wanted to die with the person I truly love right beside me, hopefully I get to see Chris in Heaven. I close my eyes and just like that.
I'm Gone.
