Everyone looked at me like I said the wrong thing, I didn't. They have no idea of what's out there. I'll be surprised if one of them came back in one piece.
"I'm not taking no for an answer. I promise you that I will come back. Until then, Lieutenant Callahan will be left in charge with the assistance of Supplier Chuck Hartley" I said,
Chuck looked at me with very stern eyes, Gabe finally got the smirk off of his face, and straightened up.
"Do I have any volunteers who are eligible enough to come with me?" I see a sea of hands go up in the air.
They didn't want to lose their leader.
"Out of the three, I'll chose Rocky, Trevor, and Matthew" I said, hearing the bounce of the echo of my voice plunged through the crowd.
Rocky, 17, a female soldier for a couple of a years now. Got registered after her house caught fire with her parents still inside, She doesn't get to worked up about it much.
Trevor, 15, male private that got registered about 1 year ago. He never had a family, he had to live on his own till the Infected reached his part of town.
Matthew, 17, another son of a bitch who thinks the War is a fucking joke, like Gabe. Got registered 3 months ago, just starting out. He still doesn't know the way to shoot properly, but he can do for a good lookout guard.
As I stepped away from the podium and down the stairs, everyone gives me sad smiles and their applause.
I walk to my cabin, and start to pack my valuables in my satchel. Hair brush, toothbrush and paste, a picture of my dad and I during the Happy Days. And my registration pass to show at Quarantine Zones.
There was a knock at my door. Before I say anything, the door opens unannounced. Gabe stood at my door, watching me pack for the journey.
"Do you realize what the hell you just said out there?" Gabe said, pointing to the door,
"Gabe, I did what I had to do. We are going to be fine." I said calmly,
"No you didn't Alice! You practically not even gonna survive the 1st night!" Gabe said, leaning against my dresser, shouting at me.
"Last time I checked, I can survive out there. I know what there is out there. I know that we don't have much time left, but I need to go." I said.
Gabe huffed out a breathe, showing me his defeat in our discussion.
"Just make sure to come back in one piece. This place would be nothing without you." Gabe said, putting his hands around me to engulf me with a hug.
I slightly moved back, "Make sure they train artillery, do their drills, and be on the lookout for any of those flesh eating bastards."
