That night I went home surrounded by my thoughts. Her words replayed in my head.
Over and over again. And everything else was just hazy mess.
But kissing her that had been my best choice I had made in my life. And after I pulled away she pulled me in for more. I couldn't get enough. But this was already complicated enough.
And I had just made this 10 times harder but if I had a choice to change it. I wouldn't. I would do it all over again.
I didn't notice the phone ringing until the their ring and as soon as I answered the loud blare of music could be heard.
"Zacccccchhhh." The speaker slurred. It was impossible to pinpoint who it was. It wasn't until I looked at the contact did I see it was Joe.
"Joe. How drunk are you? "
"Wasted."
"Where are you?" I sighed. It wasn't unusual for Joe to sneak into clubs and get drunk to wits end. Trying to reason with him was impossible and never worked.
"Blue." He said as the music began to blare louder as he muttered something against the phone and hung up. I sighed as I grabbed my jacket and looked at the clock.
12:00
I jogged out to the car and heated it up as I made my way to Blue. The roads were virtually empty which wasn't a surprise for this small town.
I got there fairly quickly and walked in and saw Joe at the bar surrounded by a swarm of girls as I pushed past them and patted his shoulder.
"Alright mate. Let's get you home."
"But Zachhhh! My friends here want me to stay."
"Yes. But your sister is going to kill and not mention your parents." He pouted as I guided him out of the bar and he stumbled into the car. As his eyes drooped.
"Hey. I figured out whose bracelet it was." He said tiredly.
I smiled. "Really whose?"
"A girl's." He laughed like it was the funniest thing ever. Then he stopped and looked at me. "Zach? I think Evie loves you."
I chocked on the air as I turned to look at him. "What makes you say that."
He shrugged his shoulder. "The way she looks at you and the fact that you make her smile more than anyone else. And you know what?"
"What?" I said hesitant.
"I think you love her too. And I think your afraid because of me." I shrugged not answering. He yawned as he said. "I may be a drunk ass right now but just know that whatever you two do. I approve. Take care of her Zach."
I bit my cheek trying to his my smile as I nodded. This was the last part of the equation. With Joe's acceptance, well drunk acceptance. We could go forward, we could be something.
But life's a strange thing because even through I had thought the stars had alined and that it was going to be my favor.
They weren't.
I smiled as I looked over at the drunken sleep Joe had fallen into. As I turned onto the main road and I didn't see the swerving car and maybe if I had and moved or turned everything would have been different.
But all there was a crash, a blinding pain, a distant wail of sirens and then it all went black.
