The days after I woke up were completely boring.
I had tests, X-Rays, MRI, CAT scans, everything. It was exhausting and by the end of it all I would fall asleep only to have the routine start again for the next few days.
And the worse part of it all was that I was pain all the time. Sure they gave pain meds but the second after they wore off I was in pain until the next dose was given.
But through everything I had one good thing. My friends and family. Their bright spirits helped.
That and the fact whenever Evie came with Joe or without him. She was always smiling.
When she came alone today she sat down and held my hand for a bit and played with my hair. "Zachary. You scared the hell out of me that day."
I looked up at her and tears welled in her eyes and I wiped her tears. "Evie. It would take a lot more to knock me out."
She signed and shook her head. "I just don't want a repeat of what happened with Macy."
I looked at her and held her eye and whispered. "I'll be fine Ev."
"Zach? Is this really ever gonna work out?"
"I don't know." And as much as I wanted to say yes.. I really didn't know.
