"We're on the borderline"
-Tame Impala
"Looks like Banner has come out to play!" Fury yells over the loud sirens that were currently blaring throughout the hall. Running by his side, the two of us make a sharp turn, entering the main room to find it in complete chaos. Agents run around themselves, desperately trying to gain control over the rapidly spiraling situation.
A loud roar echoes throughout the entire helicarrier, causing silence to descend over the room as everyone exchanges a worried look with one another. The Hulk was out, and no one knew how to stop him. The second roar catapulted everyone into action as they all rushed to their stations.
"Bring the carrier to a 1-8-0, heading south!" Fury screamed, approaching his station in the center, "Take us to the water, we're flying blind." Coming to stand next to Fury, I feel hopeless as I watch the scene before us unfold. The carrier had lost one of its turbines and there was a chance it could lose another. If that should happen, the chances of everyone dying increased tenfold.
"Navigations recalibrating after the engine failure." An agent yelled, looking up at Fury and I from their station.
I irritation sparked inside of Fury as he turned to stare at the agent, "Is the sun up?" He questioned.
"Yes sir." The agent looked out the window then back to Fury with a nod.
"Then put it on the left, get us over the water." Fury was no longer trying to hide his desperation anymore, "One more turbine goes down and we drop, we are not going to lose another life today, do you hear me?"
The room, despite the sirens blaring, became deathly calm as everyone quickly manned their stations, doing their best to stop the helicarrier from dropping to certain doom. I shifted from side to side on my feet, unsure of what to do. I felt useless, everyone else had some kind of job and I was just standing here like an idiot watching as everything unfolded, I had to do something, I just didn't know what.
"We need a full evac in the lower hanger bay." Fury ordered Hill who was running towards him, she nodded, saying something into her com before approaching her own station.
A sharp ringing filled my ears once more, causing me to wince at the foreign sensation. It was the same exact ringing from earlier. Turning towards the main door, my heart dropped as I saw a figure approach from the hallway.
"Grenade!" I screamed, but there wasn't enough time as the tiny bomb rolled into the room, exploding in a cloud of smoke and sending everyone in the room flying.
Groaning on the ground, I rolled over to see Fury wrestled his gun from the holster at his side, sliding the weapon to me with a tight smile before pulling himself up, another gun in his hand.
Fury was trusting me with a weapon. Fury was trusting me.
Pulling myself up, I followed the director through the smoke, the gun feeling natural in my hands as I raised it, aiming it at the onslaught of soldiers that were now entering the room. Fury made quick work of disarming them through hand to hand combat and I watched in awe as every single one dropped to the ground.
But he had missed one. And that soldier was currently raising his gun at Fury, ready to shoot. Without thinking, the gun in my hands went off, hitting the soldier directly in the chest. I watched in horror as he staggered back, his eyes meeting mine. They were that unnatural blue, the one that signified he was under Loki's control. I watched with even more horror as the blue bled to brown, his features contorting in pain. He dropped and even from a distance, I could hear his body hit the cold metal. Dropping the gun, I rushed over to Fury who was staring at me in shock once again.
