(34) The Next Step

"You took my broken melody, and now I hear a symphony."

My heart hammers in my chest as I exit my ship, the walls of the Jedi Temple greeting me. This is my first time home since the battle of Christophsis and my first time seeing Anakin since then. Right after we won the battle, Anakin, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan were sent to rescue Jabba the Hutt's son while the 7th and I were sent back to quell a separatist attack on a moon.

I ended up being on that moon for weeks while Anakin and Ahsoka uncovered a separatist weapon called the Mallovance, destroying it before it could harm any more people.

"You have the next few weeks off gentlemen." I grin as I finish briefing my troops, you've earned it." My troopers whoop with excitement and I can't help but join in with them. We've all grown close after the many battles on that moon and I'm so grateful to have not only soldiers, but friends... brothers even.

We had spent the trip home painting their armor a mint green, the color of our battalion. Every clone personalized their armor to help with identifying who was who on the battlefield. I even added a little armor of my own, just like Obi-Wan and Anakin. However, it was just blast reflectant shoulder covers that I could place over my robes which I had cut to help suit me better. As an homage to my troopers, I decided to weave mint green ribbons into my hair when I braid it, not only keeping my braids more secure, but also honoring the men around me.

"And what are you planning on doing General?" My Captain, Dunne, asks, raising his eyebrows. I look up from the holopad in my hand, shurgging. I really had no idea what I was going to do, hopefully, if the logs checked out, Anakin would be back today as well and then I could see him.

I haven't been able to keep my mind off of him in these past few weeks, every night before bed, I found myself obsessively checking my holopad for any information regarding him. If there was nothing new, I couldn't sleep and would find myself exhausted the next day. It was a really bad habit I had gotten into, but I just had to know if he was ok.''

"I'll be training and working on blaster deflection." I grin, motioning to my bandaged shoulder. I had taken a blaster bullet about two days ago and it was just now starting to feel better.

"You should also be making sure your shoulder is healing properly." Ruhn says with a knowing tone as he walks by Dunne and I. Rolling my eyes, I follow my commander out of the hanger door, Dunne and Helix behind me as we all enter a ship. Beau, West, Rusher and Ryder are already waiting and they nod as we enter.

The ship takes on and I grin as we pass through the Coruscant skyline. This is their first time in the capital and I really do hope they take some time to relax before our next mission. The ship descends over the Jedi Temple and I say goodbye to my men before exiting, watching as their ship leaves, taking them to the barracks.

The journey to my quarters is short and in no time, I am changing out of my battle robes and into my old ones. The sun is setting outside, bathing my room in a golden orangey glow. I smile as I undo my hair, massaging my head to release the tension built up over the past few days.

My door slides open and I whirl around to find Anakin standing in the doorway. He's breathing heavily as if he just ran here, his eyes widening as they lock with mine.

"Anakin." I whisper. It seems as though my words activate something inside of him because one moment he is standing in front of me, and the next I am his in arms, being spun around. I can feel the joy and relief radiating off of him and I can't help but laugh as his emotions seep into mine.

"Leora." Anakin hugs me tighter as he sets me down on the ground. I return the favor, relishing in the feeling of him.

"I've missed you." I blurt out as he releases me. In my words, the biggest smile paints across his face and I can't help but marvel in the beauty of him. I can feel my cheeks heat up, why would I say that? What if he didn't miss me?
