There are many Octonauts holiday traditions that happen simply because everyone gets a kick out of them and they like them.
For example, everyone groans when Dashi presents them with the newest Christmas sweater they all have to wear that year, but they put it on anyways because it just isn't an Octonauts Christmas without embarrassing photos they can send to their family.
Everyone will insist on making the Captain dress up as Santa for the Vegimals' entertainment because he looks so cuddly as Santa and the Vegimals love it. The Captain won't admit it, but he loves it even if they have to stuff two pillows down his shirt.
Going on a holiday shopping trip is one of Dashi's and Tweak's favorite things to do. The one reason Tweak is willing to go with Dashi is because they're shopping for presents for their Octo-family and biological families and not for frilly pink dresses for her to wear.
Dashi has the idea to do a holiday photo shoot each year. No one else wants to do it, but they love Dashi too much to say no, and some of the photos she took of them actually came out looking really nice.
There's an unspoken rule that whoever is asked to spend the holidays on the Octopod cannot refuse. At all. It started when one year, the Captain worried that Natquik would feel alone during the holiday season, so he invited him to come spend the holidays on the Octopod with them.
It's tradition to put on a movie right after lunch in Christmas and New Year's because the Octonauts just want an excuse to watch holiday movies.
Every year, when it comes time to wrap gifts for each other, everyone has a very specific process to wrap Kwazii's and Pinto's presents. First, they just wrap normal gift paper on it; nothing out of the ordinary, then they cover it in way too much duct tape. Why? Because both Kwazii and Pinto are notorious for peeking before Christmas.
