Caroline cleaned up all the mess and turn around when she heard the door open.
"Hey, you're home." She said before getting up from the floor." I was just tidying up the house from the other day when." she stopped herself when she saw Stefan carrying a dead body. Jeremy's dead body." I couldn't get the spot out."
"Come on, let's get him upstairs." Elena said before going upstairs with Stefan following her. Caroline just watched them go upstairs, not knowing what to say or do.
Stefan sat the body on Jeremy's bed. Elena sat next to the bed and held her brother's hand. Hoping he could wake up.
"Can I get you anything?" Stefan asked and Elena shook her head no." No, I'm fine. I'm just going to sit here and wait with him until he wakes up." Elena told him." let me know if you hear anything about Bonnie, okay?" She asked, turning to him, and he nodded." Yeah, sure." he watched her put the covers on Jeremy's body before waiting on him. He slowly walked out of the room, heading downstairs.
Caroline dumped out the pot of water in the sink before turning to Stefan.
"How long has she been like that?" Caroline asked him." Since we found his body. She hasn't said anything except she's waiting for him to wake up." He told her.
"But he's not just gonna wake up." Caroline told him." she knows that. Right?" Stefan silenced her before cutting on the water.
"Look. Deep down, I think she has to. But we're talking about Elena here. She feels grief more powerfully than anyone else. I think her denial is protecting her from letting it all in." He said to her.
"But she can't stay like this forever." Caroline told him." I know. But I don't want to be the one to break her out of it. not until we know Bonnie's safe. not until we get Damon here to, you know." He said.
"Use the sire bond to convince her that everything's okay." She said and he nodded." I'm not in denial." They both turned around to see Elena standing by the door. Stefan cut the water off before turning to her.
"I know that he was supernatural. But did you see? His tattoos gone. The tattoo had to spell that open Silas's chamber. Maybe it being gone that means he fulfilled his supernatural destiny. Maybe he's back to normal. It's possible, right?" Elena asked them.
"Elena." Caroline started, but Elena interrupted her." it's possible, Caroline. There's a chance. It may be minuscule, but it's hope. And I'm going to hold onto that hope with everything that I've got. because there's no way that." she said, but she stopped her self." there's absolutely no way that my brother is dead. I'm not in denial." She said before walking away.
