Kayla sat on the edge of her bed, her face buried in her hands. Tears streamed down her cheeks as the reality of her dad being missing sunk in. She hadn't heard anything from him in days and she was scared. She had so many questions. Where was he? Was he even still alive?

She wished she could talk to him, tell him how much she missed him and how much she was worried.

She wished she could hear his voice again, feel his embrace. She wished he was here.

Kayla stayed on her bed, letting the tears flow freely. She felt lost, helpless, and alone. Then, she heard a soft knock on the door.

"Kayla? it's me," Evangelina said from the other side.

Kayla wiped away her tears and opened the door. Her friend looked at her with a sad expression and then opened her arms. Kayla stepped into Evangelina's embrace and quietly sobbed into her shoulder.

"It's going to be alright," she whispered into her ear. "We will find your dad. I promise."

Kayla held onto the words like a lifeline.

She clung to the hope to that her dad was still out there and that he would come home soon. With her mom's arms around her, Kayla felt her fear and sadness slowly subside.

Kayla moved over, heading over to her dresser as a picture frame had a picture from her childhood years with her father.

She hugged the photo close to her chest and tried to remember the happy times they had together. She thought about going fishing on the lake, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, and playing catch in the backyard. She wished she could make all of those memories again.

Kayla felt so alone without her dad. She was desperate for someone to talk to, but she knew nobody could understand how she was feeling expect Evangelina. She put the photo down, wiped away her tears, and curled up in her bed. She felt so empty without her dad and she just wanted him to come home.

Evangelina sighed, placing her arms around Kayla as she stroked her hair softly.

The two girls were huddled together on the bed, both of them silent. Evangelina had her arm wrapped around Kayla in a comforting embrace, trying to comfort her as best she could.
