[ C H A P T E R 16 ]

LATISHA VALENTINE

They told me that the carriage that was supposed to escort Annika to the Duchy after her class was attacked. The coachman and the Knights guarding her were all dead. Someone took the child and left a note saying that it was ransom.

I tried to calm down even when I was almost to bursting. The chest pain that had been brewing since earlier became more intense that it is now hindering me to breathe properly. I took multiple breathing techniques to acquire air but it's not helping me calm down.

I also realized that I was the last person who knew this matter. Naalala ko kanina na sinabi ni Nethys kay Butler Erwan na hinahanap siya ni Roshan at isa itong importanteng impormasyon. I thought it was just one of the issues that the Duke handles, but seeing everyone is present, makes me mad even more.

"If Hana didn't tell me that Annika was missing, are you going to hide this from me?" I uttered with a hint of anger, looking at my husband while everyone's witnessing the ducal couple fighting again.

"I have this matter under control," he replied, calmly which made my annoyance grow even more. Nanatili akong nakatingin sa kanya at hinayaan kong ilabas ang namumuong galit sa aking kalooban.

If no one will tell me beforehand, I will never know until I notice she's not at home yet. My heart has been pounding since that news broke out and how I learned the truth from Roshan.

"How is this under control?" litanya ko, hindi lang para sa kanya kundi sa kanilang lahat. "You are all here while my daughter is missing!"

"Your Grace, please calm down," Sir Hasan said. He's much closer to me in this situation. His calm demeanor eventually helped me breathe but I'm still worried. "I went to the State Hall, there were quite a few posters of missing childrens. Some are from higher status of nobility, and the state had been overseeing this matter."

I used both of my hands to cover my face. Hindi rin nagtagal ay tumingin ako sa kanya. "How is that news supposed to calm me down, Sir Hasan?"

"We cannot intervene with the investigation, your Grace," said Wince who was sitting on the window of Roshan's office, holding a balance scale. "No one has seen the face of the young lady except those who are in the mansion. If the Duchy infers, they may speculate that there's something going on inside the walls."

"I don't care about that, Wince Harold Melavin. What I care about right now is Annika's safety!" I fumed. My anger is really bursting. "Why would I care if the whole State knew she's in the Duchy? If that can allow her to survive in the hands of her abductor, then let the news be informed that the young lady of Riedensteigh has been kidnapped!"

"Your grace," Sir Hasan warned again.

Tumataas ang boses ko at ako lang ata ang problemado dito. They all looked calm as if this matter was trivial for them. Hindi ko mapigilan tumawa ng mapakla. Butler Erwan is just in the corner, holding a notebook he uses to take notes. He is not even talking.

Sidney Logan Frankenstein was folding some paper he got from a book. Laphel Flyn Wagner looked with curious eyes but he's not talking too. Nethys is standing beside a bookshelf, too far from us. No one was talking, even Commander Cyan.

"Assholes," I whispered and I didn't even care if I was heard. Tumayo ako at umalis ng silid habang nagpupuyos sa galit. I even slammed the door so hard that I also got startled because of the impact. My whole world is collapsing and I can't think straight. I am the only who is thinking about the safety of that child and I fucking wished her father could, too.
