I sat on the chair next to the bed with a blacked-out Jonah. My head was in my hands, and the day's events kept repeating. Suddenly the glass door opened, and I looked up to see a panicked Steven in front of me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
My voice was still weak.
"I was contacted." He continued. "What the hell happened?"
I began to panic.
"Well-" I began.
"Dad?" Jonah asked.
Our attention turned to him.
"He's your dad?" I asked.
Steven ignored me and walked to the edge of the hospital bed.
"Jonah, what happened?" He repeated.
"Nothing," Jonah responded.
"You shattered your ankle."
Jonah doesn't respond.
"I lied," I said, breaking the silence.
"About what?" Steven asked.
I took a deep breath.
"About my name."
"Why?"
I got up from the chair and grabbed the handle of the glass door. I slowly shoved it closed.
"My name isn't Hailey; I just didn't want anyone to know I was in town." I continued. "I'm sorry about your foot Jonah."
There is a tense silence in the room. I opened the glass door.
"I'm going to head to my mom's house." I paused. "Sorry again."
I began to head down the hallway of the hospital. A presence was following behind me. A chill went up my neck. I turned around. There was a lady close to my height. She had brown skin and pretty blue eyes. Her brown hair ended at her shoulders. She had a curiosity in her eyes.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
"Do you know Kolby Bryne?"She asked.
"No, I just moved here."
We walked out to the parking lot. She was trailing behind me.
"Look, I've had a long day. Please leave me alone!" I explained.
"Are you Leah Fletcher, kid?" She asked.
I stopped, and my heart and stomach dropped.
"H-how?" I asked, turning around. "H-how did you know?"
"Oh my god!" She continued. "I fucking knew it."
"How did you know?"
"You look like the girl version of Kolby."
"Who are you?"
"Oh, I'm sorry!" She continued. "My name is Anya Bryne, and I'm your aunt."
"Please don't tell anyone I'm here." I pleaded.
I felt the coldness of tears run down my face.
"We have so much to talk about; let me treat you to coffee."
She grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug. I buried my face into her shoulder, and I hugged her back.
"I won't tell anyone, I promise."
