I headed back to bed. The smell of back woke me up. I stretched and then headed downstairs.
"Morning," I said.
"Morning," Ana responded.
Jonah was sitting at the kitchen table.
"Morning." He said.
I sat down next to him. Jonah proceeds to take a sip of coffee.
"What were you guys doing last night?" Ana asked.
Jonah choked on his coffee.
"Getting water," I explained. "Why?"
"Your talking woke up Steven," Ana explained.
"Dad's a light sleeper," Jonah responded.
"It still woke him up."
DING DONG! We all looked at each other.
"Are you expecting anyone?" I asked.
I looked at Jonah, and he shook his head. I then looked at Ana; she did the same.
"What now?" I whined.
I got up and headed to the door, opening it to be met by Anya. She had a panic on her face, and I opened the door, and she walked past me.
"Well, come in, I guess," I said.
She turned around.
"How did you find me?" I asked.
"Doesn't matter. Call your mom." Anya responded.
"She's dead."
"The other one."
"Why?"
"Just do it."
"Okay."
I headed into the kitchen to grab my phone.
"Who is it?" Jonah asked.
"Anya," I responded.
"What?" Ana asked.
"Yeah, while leaving the hospital. She found me."
"Ari!" Anya called out.
I then headed back into the living room. I began to call my mom.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Ari, your dad and I were robbed." My mom explained.
"Oh, my god." I continued. "Are you okay?"
"We are...the house isn't."
"Oh, my god."
"I gotta go; I love you."
"I'll talk to you later."
She then hung up. My body began to shake. I looked up to see Anya and Ana in front of me.
"What is going on?" Ana asked.
"Are they okay?" Anya asked.
"Someone's after me." I continued. "You're not safe with me here."
"What do you mean?"
I ran upstairs and grabbed the crumpled note from my bag. I headed back downstairs and handed the letter over.
"Oh my god," Ana muttered.
"What is going on?" Jonah asked, heading into the room.
"Let's go on a tour," I said.
"Ari, what is going on?" He asked, holding my face.
I hugged him.
"Let's go." I cried.
"No." He responded.
"Fine."
I ran upstairs and grabbed my keys, and left the house. I headed to the only place that helped me think. I sat against an elm that gave me a view of the lake. A guy ran by. Then slowly walked up to the tree. I ignored what he looked like; I only noticed his green eyes.
"Hey," He said.
"Um, hi?" I responded.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah."
"What about your neck?"
"That's nothing."
"I've never seen you before. Are you new to Mount Haven?"
"You could say that."
"Well, my name is Kolby Bryne, and I'm the mayor of Mount Haven. Welcome!"
"Thanks."
"Your name?"
"Oh, right." I continued. "My name is Rose."
"Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too."
"I'll leave you to your thinking."
"Thanks."
"Goodbye."
"Bye."
Kolby then ran off.
"Anya! What are you doing here?" I heard Kolby from behind the tree.
"Looking for you," Anya responded.
Jonah walked up to me.
"You're not safe with me here," I explained.
"Well, Ari, you don't have a choice in the matter," Jonah responded.
"Yes, I do," I paused. "You attacked me yesterday; what changed?"
"I know, but you didn't stutter when I touched your face. You're not scared of me."
"What?"
"I hurt you, and you're not scared of me. Why?"
"I hurt you too."
Jonah walked up to me and grabbed my face.
"Ari."
"I like you, okay...What happened was an accident."
There's silence.
"I like you too stupid."
"Rude, I think you're cute."
"Excuse me, what?"
"Nothing; we need to complete our tour."
There was another silence. He turned around.
"What if something happens to you?" I asked.
He turned back around.
"So what if it does?" He responded.
"Someone's after me."
"I know,"
"I don't want anyone else to get hurt because of me."
"No one else will."
"You don't know that."
He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer to him. We put our foreheads against each other.
"You're not going to give up," I said.
"You're the only girl to shatter my foot." He responded.
"Why do you have to be cuter when you're stubborn?"
I felt my face blush. Did I just say that?
"Ooo, you think I'm cute?"
"Clearly."
We were about to kiss when we heard someone scream from a distance.
"ARE YOU OKAY!" Ana asked.
"YES, ANA!" I responded.
Jonah and I began to laugh.
"My parents need to stop butting in," Jonah said.
I put my hands around his neck.
"Wouldn't this be weird because I'm staying at your house?" I asked.
"Nah." He responded.
"Okay, then let's get to know each other better."
I grabbed his sweatshirt and pulled him closer. I kissed him. My face went completely red. I then headed to the trail.
"Rude!" Jonah shouted after me.
I turned around.
"Catch me, cripple," I shouted in response.
I was stopped in my tracks when I saw Kolby down the trail. Jonah then tasered my sides. I screamed. Jonah then kissed me. We didn't notice Kolby running toward us. Once we split apart, Kolby punched Jonah.
"Oh my god!" I screamed.
Jonah fell to the ground. I squatted down to him.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
He didn't respond.
"What the fuck, Kolby?" I asked.
"I thought he attacked you!" He responded.
"He tasered my sides."
I sat next to Jonah.
"Jonah?" I asked.
He groaned in response.
"Oh my god!"
"Kolby, what happened?" Anya said, joining us.
"I thought Rose was getting attacked."
"Whose Rose?"
I looked at her with panic in my eyes.
"Oh shit, sorry, I blanked your name," Anya explained.
"You know her?" Kolby asked.
"We met at the coffee shop," I explained.
"Oh, cool."
"W-what happened?" Jonah asked.
"You were punched," I explained.
"By who?"
I pointed to Kolby.
"Oh, your dad?"
My face went white.
"Oh."
"He's extremely out of it," Anya mentioned.
"I should get him home," I explained.
I threw a loopy Jonah over my shoulder. I walked past Ana, who then followed me.
"What happened?" Ana asked.
"I'll explain at the house," I explained.
"She met her dad," Jonah said.
"Jonah!"
I helped him into Ana's car. I got in my vehicle. I sighed deeply.
