Anya burst through the front door. Jonah and I jolted up and looked at each other.
"Shit!" I said.
I jumped out of bed and closed the door. We then proceeded to get dressed as fast as possible. Anya knocked on the door, and I opened the door slowly. I then looked at my aunt.
"Hi," Anya said.
"Hi," I responded.
"You have work today."
I closed the door behind me.
"Right."
"So, this picture."
"Why does Kolby have the ring?"
"I don't know."
"Shit!" I paused. "What are you going to have me do today?"
"Just organize my room."
"Okay, cool."
I opened the bedroom door, walked up to Jonah, and kissed him.
"Bye," I said.
"Okay, bye," Jonah responded.
I closed the door and was met by Anya again.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
"Yep," I responded.
"Okay, let's go."
Anya began to walk to the main house. I was followed behind her, and Anya led me to her closet.
"Start here and come and find me when you're done," Anya explained.
"What do we say if anyone asks why I'm here?" I asked.
"You're my assistant."
"How do I explain the payment?"
"The guest house."
"Damn, you have this planned out."
"I'm a good liar."
"Fair enough."
Anya then began to leave the room.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"I'm going to get us breakfast," Anya explained.
"You're going to leave me alone?"
"I trust you."
"Okay."
Anya then left the room. I went and grabbed a jewelry box. I then sat on the ground and turned the box over. I began to organize the jewelry based on the kind. An older lady walked into Anya's room and turned to look at me.
"Hello, my name is Rose," I explained.
She began to shake. Her face was completely white. Fear was frozen on her face.
"Are you okay?"
She looked like she'd seen a ghost. She bolted out of the room. I shrugged it off. I sat down and continued to organize. Then a familiar face walked into Anya's room. I jumped when I noticed him.
"What are you doing here?" Kolby asked.
"I'm Anya's new assistant," I explained.
"Oh cool, cool."
I kept organizing the jewelry box. Kolby continued to stand in the doorway.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
"Whatcha doing?" Kolby asked.
"Organizing your sister's jewelry box."
"Okay."
He continued to stare at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing, you just look like someone from my past," Kolby explained.
"Weird."
"Do you know who Leah Fletcher is?"
"Um, no."
"You look just like her."
"Cool."
"Are you sure you are not related?"
"Yes, What's the ring around your neck?"
There was silence that was in the room. I looked at him.
"Doesn't feel great to be questioned, huh?" I asked.
"So you know Leah?" Kolby asked.
"I don't want to answer that."
"I don't want to answer about the ring."
"Okay."
There was another silence.
"I'm onto you," Kolby said.
"I'm sure you are," I responded.
"I'll figure out a connection."
"I'm sure you will."
Anya then entered the room.
"Leave my assistant alone, Kolby," Anya demanded.
"She looks just like her," Kolby responded.
"I know...Leave my room."
Anya entered the doorway holding two plates, and Kolby left the room.
"What was that about?" Anya asked.
"He asked about Leah," I responded.
"Did you say anything?"
"Nothing besides that I know her."
"Good."
Then there was a silence.
"Did Kolby kill her?" I asked.
"No," Anya responded.
"How do you know that?"
"They were engaged."
"Oh."
"They were going to get married the day after Leah's death."
Anya handed me the paper she held under the plates, a wedding license.
