Remington

"Remington?" She mumbled tiredly.

I opened my eyes slowly, and smiled when I noticed Austyn cuddled into my side, "Good morning love."

I leaned my head down, and left a soft kiss on her forehead, warranting a bright smile to light up my point of view.

"Good morning baby," She whispered. It sent a shiver down my spine, yet left me warm, "what do you want for breakfast?"

"I don't know," I sighed contently, my heart doing a flip when her eyes met mine, "what are you hungry for?"

There was a slight pause between us after she shrugged. It was quiet and comfortable, allowing me to lay my head on her shoulder. We just sat there, wrapped up in each other for what felt like hours. This is how it should've been all along. Her with me, and smiling. My heart feeling full, and warm. I had her now. She was so close, and I was getting lost in her eyes. I'd remember them forever. We made small talk, her laughing at a joke I'd crack every now and then.

"Remington?" Austyn said suddenly. Concern laced her tone, and my eyebrows rose in confusion.

I let out a hum, warranting her to continue.

"I love you," She said sincerely, "and you know that right?"

"Of course I do," I chuckled lightly, "and it's made me the happiest man in the world to know that. I love you too."

More than I'd ever be able to explain.

"that makes me so happy," She say up straighter, and the crack in her sentence lead me to do the same, "and it just breaks my heart."

"What," I laughed nervously, "what do you mean?"

"We can't do this," She explained, "and you know that."

My heart sunk and I pulled my arm from around her shoulder, "What? Of course we ca- Austyn what's going on?"

"We can't make this work right now," She sniffled, and my expression broke, causing her tears to fall, "I love you. I love you so much, and one day this will work but, it's not our time. You need to move on."

I shook my head desperately, "No. We can do it. I love you, and you're all I have."

"I'm not," Austyn whispered, "you have your brothers, and your fans. There are so many wonderful people in your life right now."

"Why are you doing this," I pleaded, "why are you saying these things? Austyn I love you so much, and I just want you to stay with me. Please just stay with me."

She wiped her stray tears, "I love you too, and one day you'll know. You'll understand just how much you mean to me but, for now we can't. You need to move on. Everyone else already has, and I know you can do this because you are the strongest person I know."

"Stop that," I scoffed, "why am I not enough for you?"

"You are," Her voice was calm, "just give us some time."

Time.

"I don't understand what you are doing."

"You need closure," She said softly, "and I'm here to let you have it. It's not our time."

She kept saying it. Over and over and over again. It was running circles in my head. I couldn't understand.

"I love you so much," I cried out as she got off of my bed and headed towards the door, "please don't leave."

"I'm already gone."

I got up and reached for her, but she faded away before I could take her in my arms. She turned into nothing, the air she left behind suffocating me, and bringing me to my knees. It was happening all over again.

"Remington," I heard a voice call. I could hear the worry in Emerson's voice. He was just outside the door. I wiped tears, and snot from my face. I'd never get used to the pain. It felt the same every time. The same vile feeling rising in my stomach. The same burning shatter, cracking at my heart. Every time, it seemed to get worse instead of better. My little brother tugged on the door knob, "come on Remington! We're here for you but, you have to open the door."

"Why can't you come in?"

"You have to come to us," Sebastian explained, "you're strong enough to get through this. Just come back to us."

I was confused, and hurt, "I don't want to move."

"I know it's hard," Emerson cried. Why was he crying? Why couldn't they come in? I looked to the floor and saw a white light peaking through the small crack between the door and the flooring, "but we can't keep going without you. You have to be here for so many things. You have to open the door, and come back. Please."

His plea was broken, and desperate. They sounded worried, and it broke me even further. Sebastian pulled on the handle again. I didn't understand. The door wasn't locked, why couldn't they just walk through it?

"Austyn left me. She left again."

Emerson mumbled something about not understanding.

"We're here," My older brother explain, "we're right here when you're ready. We'll be there when you wake up, ok?"

Wake up? I turned the knob hastily, swinging to door open to see nothing but white. There was a loud ringing and a white light. My brothers now being nowhere in sight. My chest filled with panic.

"Come on Rem," Emerson scoffed, "I know you're hurting but you can't just leave us hanging."

I heard a couple faint chuckles behind my brother's sarcasm.

"There's nothing here," I mumbled, "I don't know what to do."

"Just walk dumbass, you're almost there." Sebastian chuckled.

I followed his instructions, stepping into the void. It felt like I was walking for hours when I decided to stop. I couldn't go any further, so I laid on the cold floor, and shut my eyes. Leaving my confusion behind as I drifted back into darkness. Relaxing back into my body, and back into my mind. Letting my dream fade away for good.
