Remington
"Stop it," Austyn giggled, "you'll kill us both!"
I was singing off key to a song playing over the radio, and she was trying to push my focus back onto the road. I threw my head back and screamed some more lyrics.
"Rem." She said sternly, her concern growing quickly.
"Ok, ok," Sometimes I didn't think about the fact that car rides gave her a fair amount of anxiety, "I'm sorry."
I pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store, before finding a spot, putting the car in park, and taking the keys out of the ignition.
"Wait wait," I rushed out as Austyn reached for her door handle. I then, got out of my car and raced around to the passenger side to open her door, "I've always wanted to do that."
Austyn let out a scoff, as well as an eye roll, and climbed out of her seat, before giving me a dramatic bow, "Why thank you sire."
I laughed at the British accent she put on, but it faltered when she grabbed ahold of my hand and tugged me through the sliding doors. She didn't notice my change in expression or, if she had, she chose not to mention it. I wasn't used to her being affectionate like this. Not to say I wasn't ok with it.
"So," Austyn dragged out, "we're here for s'mores stuff right?"
"Yeah. We might have graham crackers but, we need marshmallows and chocolate, and I personally think we should get a couple cases of Nutella." I explained.
"Have you ever put Nutella on s'mores?"
I stopped dead in my tracks, letting my jaw fall slack, causing her to stumble into me when my arm couldn't be pulled any further, "What did you just say?"
"Nutella. On S'mores," She mumbled slowly, "it's really good if you spread some on the graham cracker."
"Have I told you you're my favorite person," I smirked and pulled her in close, "like ever? In the whole world."
I leaned in to place a kiss on her lips but, was rudely interrupted.
"Austyn?"
She looked behind her, and my gaze followed quickly. Her face was no longer in my line of vision but, I could still feel her eye roll.
"Carmen," She said sourly, "hi."
"Hi," Carmen's voice was overly enthusiastic as she wrapped Austyn in a tight hug, causing her hand to slip out of mine, "how are you? It's been like weeks!"
"I'm fine. What are you doing here?" Austyn's smile was plastic, and her tone was uncomfortable.
"Just shopping with my boyfriend." Carmen's tone was laced with something.
"Oh. You have another one already?" Austyn chuckled lightly, wincing when I pinched her elbow.
"Yeah," Carmen's smile was also fake, and I began wondering what we were doing starting this conversation in the first place, "actually I'll go get him! I think you guys could use some catching up!"
Austyn waited until Carmen was out of her view to send me a look of pure disgust, causing me to burst out in laughter.
"Come on," I reasoned, "try to play nice."
My advice flew out the window when Carmen returned with no one other than Ryan at her side.
"Austyn," He said awkwardly, "uh- hi."
"Hey," I answered for her, "look at that! Your eye's finally starting to look a little better, that's awesome!"
Austyn scoffed lightly in an attempt to cover up her laugh.
