Chapter 23

You finished your online work for the day and stretched your arms high above your head. For once, everyone went to school the next day even with your outbursts from the other night. Usually someone would stay to keep tabs on you, but for once the house was empty. You were listening to your favorite music while you worked as there was no one to listen and judge to your music taste. Just as you had finished stretching you heard your phone ding beside you. You flipped it from its position to check on who was texting you.

"Yikes." You muttered out loud, noticing you had missed several missed notifications. Guess your music was so loud you never heard your phone go off.

The main group chat "Smells Like Teen Spirit." had several missed notifications. As you scrolled through you noticed they were talking about going to the mall after school. Most of the group seemed agreeable as excited emoji's popped up agreeing to meeting at Kairi's house after changing into casual clothes. The only person who didn't seem interested was Vanitas, who replied with a curt "No." and nothing else. You responded back, letting them know you were interested in going as well. Rather than responding to the main chat, Kairi's response was implemented in the girls chat.

"Yes please come along! We never got to finish our discussion about Axel's crush on you!"

You rolled your eyes and replied, "Kairi!"

"Shhhh!"

You sent a random emoji in response and locked your phone before sighing deeply. Kairi seemed very adamant about at least attempting to put the two of you together. He was a very sweet guy however, you've rarely seen him so serious but you knew deep down he had a good heart. You dressed into your preferred outfit to visit the mall and found something to do while waiting for everyone to get off school.

Noctis and Xion had walked into the house at their usual time with Noctis giving you a quick nod before heading upstairs to change. Xion waved to you, informing you that once she's ready she wants to head out soon. You finished gathering what you needed and met your foster siblings at the front door, the three of you heading out and walking to the mall.

There was a brisk breeze sending chills down your spine. The snow had halted, but there were still piles scattered about when the plows came through. The walk to the mall was some distance away and the three of you found something to talk about. After some time you saw your group of friends waiting for you inside the entrance as it seemed you were the last to arrive. Xion saw the sisters and ran towards them excitedly, her feet hopping off the ground.

"We never went to check out that new store!" She pointed out.

"Oh yeah! Come on {Y/N} we're gonna immediately ditch the boys." Kairi held her hand out towards you for you to accept.

When you walked towards your friend Axel had suddenly reached over his sister's head and slapped her hand away. She yelped in surprise and looked up at her tall brother with a glare. He smirked, placing his hands on his hips.

"Now why would {Y/N} want to go with you girls when she could clearly join us boys and check out video games?"

Namine giggled. "She can go wherever she wants."

"Or I'll come with you! Ya know, to keep you ladies safe." Axel ruffled Kairi's hair as she protested and smoothed it back out.

"Alright so we're splitting off? Meet at the food court in 2 hours?" Ventus held up two fingers. When everyone agreed you joined your group of girls and Axel, following them to this new store Kairi was so excited about.

When entering it seemed like a normal clothing store, consisting of several "in fashion" items along with perfume and jewelry. You picked up one of the very first glass bottles you saw on a table at the front of the store, inspecting it carefully. When Kairi noticed your interest she peeked over your shoulder and blinked at the item inquisitly.
