Beyoncé's POV
Home
June 17

We'd been back in Houston for over two weeks now.

Onika was better but she was emotionally scarred. She zoned out a lot more and cried every night.

She started sleeping in my room, recently. Onika was a cuddling person. She seemed to fall asleep quicker when she slept in my room.

I'd also been there every time she woke up from a nightmare. Her nightmares were flashbacks from various things. I only knew of two of the things that woke her.

Like now, she was asleep but I'd woken up. I was staring at the ceiling, thinking.

What did this mean?

Maybe it was just Onika being scared and needing comfort every night.

Maybe I was her comfort?

After lots of thinking, I was certain that I liked her. I didn't really mind if she didn't like me back but for me this was big.

It was a stepping stone. A possible key to my next chapter in life. I was thinking too far ahead.

I faced her and rubbed my hand across her back. Her head laid on my chest and her arm was draped across my torso.

I looked at her bare face.

"Stop staring at me, please." She mumbled.

"Go back to sleep then." I sassed and I heard a muffled giggle.

"Why are you up? What time is it?" Her raspy voice questioned me.

"Like 3 am."

"You need to sleep." She opened one eye before closing it back up.

"I swear I'll sleep if you sleep first."

"Girl, hush." She laughed and turned her head the other way.

Then she turned her body completely so the back of her head was to my chest. I felt her grab my arm and wrap it around her.

"Can you hold me?" She asked and I did.

"You good now?" I questioned with a chuckle and she just nodded.

I guess she got tired of me and actually went back to bed. I continued thinking the rest of the morning.

"What's for breakfast, Mary?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen.

"Well I made a sweet breakfast today. Waffles, pancakes, muffins, and lots of fruit. There's cereal of course." She explained whilst pointing to all the food.

"Thank you, Mary." I smiled and left to go wake people up.

I only got like 3 hours of sleep, but I was the first one up.

I first went to the kids quarter and knocked on the two doors. The only kid to actually leave either room first was Zamora.

She kept yawning but insisted on staying with me. I picked her up and carried her with me to wake everyone else up.

"Breakfast is ready." I knocked on Ciara's door. Then I walked across the hall to Kelly's door.

"Get y'all old as- butts up." I forgot Zamora was on my hip. She was being quiet with her head laid on my shoulder.

I heard a thud followed by some muttering and instantly walked away from their door. They were obviously already up, doing something.

"Now let's go get your mother." I lowly sang as we approached my room.

I cracked the door open and Onika was stretching. I smiled and Zamora greeted her mother first.

Onika opened her arms for Zamora and they hugged for a while before they both got up and started walking down with me.

I'd taken in Onika's attire. She had on some sweatpants and a plain tank top. They looked awfully like my clothes but I ignored that.

For the first time since I'd met her, Zamora chose to hang out with her mother instead of me. I tried not to show how offended I was. Zamora probably noticed her mothers energy so she wanted to be with her.

She was very smart for her age. She just knew things.

"Thank you, Mary." I heard Onika speak.

Everyone made themselves a plate and sat at the table. I was sat between Onika and Reginae.

I kept messing with Reginae because I knew it pissed her off. She was like 9, most things pissed her off.

"Stop it." She slapped my hand and I touched her hair.

"Ok, I'll stop." I left her alone and she rolled her eyes, going on her phone. She took photos of her plate, then she filmed me annoying her.

"I'm sending this to my dad."

"Aren't you 9? Why do you have a phone?"

"You had way worse things when you were 9." Kelly said as she entered the kitchen.

Her hair was a mess and she had on mismatched pyjamas. She was super smiley, so I gave her a look of disgust and she smirked.

"Don't talk to me, Kelendria." I scoffed and she laughed.

"What were you doing at 9?" Onika asked whilst cutting up a waffle for Zamora.

"Nothi-"

"She was the neighbourhood menace. Chasing people with her custom baseball bat. She had a bb G-U-N." Kelly described and spelt out the last word, for the kids not to know.

"What's a gun?" Titan was the first of the younger kids to figure out what she'd spelled out.

"It's something for big people." Ciara interjected. "Kids aren't allowed them."

"Exactly what Cici said." Kelly added.

"My dad has a bunch of guns. He doesn't let me play with them." Dwayne Jr. spoke.

"Boy-" Kelly warned and he went back to eating.

Not long after, Tim came downstairs. I also gave him a look of disgust. Him and Kelly shared a kiss before he sat next to them.

Soon they would be leaving because their Houston house was finishing getting renovated. They'd be gone within a week.

They decided to just move to Houston. They both loved Houston so much and it was their home. New York had only been their home for like 2 years.

Onika was still deciding. I think she preferred Houston. I liked Houston for her because it was safer for her. But her life was in New York, so that was her decision to make at a later date.
