Chapter 39

Onika's POV
Knowles Household
August 6

"Hi, sweetheart." Beyoncé's mother greeted me.

"Hi, Mama T." I hugged her and entered her house. "I bought everything you asked for."

I held up the grocery bags. I was going to be cooking with her tonight. She was having a family dinner and invited me.

"Thank you, baby." She closed the door behind me. "Just go put them in the kitchen, I'll be there in a second."

"Ok." I headed towards the kitchen.

Destiny was sitting at the island, taking photos with Zamora. When I entered the kitchen, they both looked to me.

"I was about to call you. Did you get my pineapple juice?" I nodded my head and took it out of one of the bags. "Thank you, bestie."

"Here, Mora." I handed her a lollipop.

"Thanks, mommy. Did you buy some for Titan too?"

"Of course. You can give them to him later." I showed her the packet of lollipops.

"Ok." She went back to talking to Destiny.

"Are y'all going to help me?" I asked as I put the food away and set up the food we were cooking.

"With cooking?" Destiny asked and I nodded. "No, Z and I have some things to do. Right, Z?"

"Yup." She popped the P and they both left the kitchen.

I shook my head when they left and continued to prepare the kitchen. Cooking would only take 2 hours, so there was time before the actual dinner.

It was 5 right now and the dinner started at 7.

Mama T made sure everyone knew there was a dress code. Apparently that's what happened at every family dinner. The colour theme was brown.

I started preheating the oven as she came into the kitchen.

We were making cheesy mashed potatoes with steak. Mama T was making the potatoes and I was making the steak. Then we'd make some salad.

"Sorry, I had to go do something." Mama T entered the kitchen.

She rolled her sleeves up before washing her hands. Then she joined me in front of the food.

"What were you doing?"

"I'm grown, Nicki." I cackled at that and she just smiled.

"Ok, so you're doing this and I'll do that?" I reassured and she nodded her head.

We both started our own things and talked the whole time. At some point, Destiny came back and started blasting some music for us.

We were doing fine until a song with the word 'bitch' played, then Mama T stopped the music all together.

Solange came over and helped with cooking. Even though she was tired from school. She made the salad for us and made me a cocktail.

"When is everyone else coming over?" Solange asked whilst taking a sip of my drink.

"Kelly, Tim and Titan are coming at 6:30." Mama T started. "I expect Bey will come at 7 on the dot because she's a little perfectionist."

"Michaels coming too, mama." Destiny came into the kitchen. "He finishes football practice at 6."

"That's fine, go set up the dining room for me." Mama T ordered and she went to do it.

We continued to cook and I'd finished the basics, all I needed to do was let it sit on a low heat before it was done.
