Over the course of the next four years, Clary stays at the New Jersey Institute. She and Vanessa become really close friends. They do everything together, from fighting demons to lounging around the Institute eating their weight in kung pow chicken. Soon enough, Kyle and her start dating. They have a great relationship over these four years, but Clary always thinks about Jace. She misses him and hates him at the same time, but she uses that hatred to her advantage. The anger from what Jace did to her made her a stronger and better Shadowhunter. With Clary's great improvement, and the powers that she has gained over the years with the angel blood in her, Clary has become one of the best female Shadowhunters.
The four years were quite uneventful, but there are some scenes that I wanted to share with you.
Clary
It's been a month since she's moved to New Jersey, and she was already getting the hang of it here. Clary knew the best restaurants, the cool places to go, and she was happy where she was.
After training that day, Clary decided to go to the park a couple blocks away to draw. Vanessa had wanted to go with her, but she rejected and claimed she wanted to be alone.
She sat down on a rock in front of a tall, pink tree, and started sketching it. The days were getting hotter, since it was getting closer to summer, so Clary was in a pair of shorts, a red and white striped tank top, with some black converse.
All of a sudden, she heard a noise coming from behind her, which was odd because all that was behind her were bushes. Clary stood up, placed her sketchbook down, and calmly reached towards her backpack, which held Heosphoros.
Turning around, Clary saw something move in the bushes. Then, something jumped out and scared her. Clary let out a loud scream and started swinging her blade, but she stopped when she saw who it was. It was Kyle.
"Woah there," said Kyle, holding up his hands "Are you trying to kill me?"
Clary sighed. "I'm sorry, you just really freaking scared me."
Kyle smiled and started walking towards her, and sat down on the rock. Clary quickly stuffed Heosphoros back into her backpack, and sat down next to him.
"How are you?" he asked.
"I'm fine. I just needed some time alone to just think."
"About that guy?"
"Yeah."
Kyle straightened up. "He doesn't deserve you, you know."
Smiling, Clary rested her head on his shoulders. She could feel her cheeks heat up from the compliment as she looked up at the sunset.
Suddenly, Kyle asked, "Do you wanna go out and get something to eat?"
Clary removed her head from Kyle's shoulders, and looked up at him. His eyes were full of uncertainty, as if her answer meant everything to him. "Like, as a date?" Yeah, it may have been a weird question, but it's always good to be on the same page when going into a relationship.
"Well, yeah."
If Clary was going to be honest, she really did like Kyle. He was nice, sweet, and not to mention, good looking. During training, Kyle was always patient with her while she struggled to do even the simplest of things. But Clary wasn't sure if she was ready to move on.
"Listen, Kyle, I like you. I really, really like you. But if we're going to do this, we have to take it slow. I just got over a breakup, and I don't know if I'm ready to go straight into things."
