Chapter 18

Clary

"What took you guys so long?" smirked Vanessa, as Clary and Jace came back into the cave.

Clary shrugged. "Runes take a long time to reapply."

"Ya, ok." Vanessa rolled her eyes, then tossed the couple each a plastic package.

Clary held it in her hand and read the packaging details. The word "Lunchables" was printed in read on the front, on top of yellow plastic. There were details about the ingredients, and some information about a survey.

"What in the name of the angel is this?" asked Jace, as he shook the package and looked at it strangely.

"It's a Lunchable." said Vanessa, as she stuffed a cracker with ham and cheese into her mouth.

"A what?"

"You've never had a lunchable before?" asked Kyle, who was sitting up against the wall with his arm wrapped around Lilly.

Clary found it weird that after the breakup, she wasn't fazed by Kyle and Lilly. He did cheat on her, and she was hurt, but she wasn't jealous. Clary quickly dismissed the thought. She shouldn't be jealous, because she had Jace, and Jace was the only guy she really loved.

Jace glared at Kyle. "Forgive me, I'm not as mundane as you."

Clary rolled her eyes. She dragged Jace over to the wall, and slid down. "A Lunchable is basically mini food kit. I used to have them all the time for school. There are multiple kinds. I have the pizza one, and so do you, but Vanessa has crackers, ham, and cheese," she said, opening the plastic tray. Clary started emptying what was inside, and started forming her pizza.

"I don't get this. Why not just buy a bigger pizza that's actually warm?" asked Jace, as he opened his kit and started assembling his as well.

"Do you see a microwave around here?" asked Jem, as he and Tessa walked towards them and sat across from Clary and Jace.

Jace muttered something that Clary couldn't hear, then gave her his pepperoni. When she gave him a questioning look, he said, "I don't it."

Clary just shrugged and added the pieces onto her mini pizzas.

"It's alright Jace, this is my first time eating a Lunchable as well. I'm not used to all these new modern things," said Tessa,

Jace took a bite of his pizza, then swallowed. "This tastes like crap." He took another bite, and finished it off. Jace leaned forward, and started drawing in the sand of the cave. "We will be entering the main room from here." He circled a section of a wall he had drawn. "Lilith will be there, she'll tell us what we need to do to get rid of Bethany, then she'll make a portal so we can go back to our dimension, then we'll finish off Bethany and we'll all live happily ever after."

"Wait. So we went all this way just to find out how to kill Bethany? I thought we were doing it here? I mean the dresm Magnus has shows Bethany stabbing one of us girls in Edom." said Lily.

Jace's face hardened, and Clary understood why. He knew it was Clary who was going to be stabbed. Bethany hated her the most. While Clary didn't want to die, she knew that doing this will help many people, so she didn't complain. Instead, Clary took Jace's hand and squeezed it lightly.

"We aren't for sure if that's going to happen, so until we actually see Bethany, let's just assume we are going home." said Jace.

"Alright, let's get a goodnight sleep, and we'll start towards the creepy fortress in the morning!" Magnus clapped his hands, sounding overly excited.

Everyone started dispersing. Jace walked over to where the sleeping bags were, and grabbed two. He layed them out against the wall as Clary cleaned up their food.
