Tessa
"Wait, what? How?" asked Isabelle.
"I have no idea. Kyle wasn't thinking of going here, and neither was I," said Magnus.
"But I was."
Everyone turned to look at Tessa.
"While we were forming the portal, I thought about how badly I wanted to come back here, and of all the memories I've had here." Tessa wanted to cry, but she held it back. She hated crying in front of people.
Jem walked over and put his arm around Tessa's waist and hugged her. Jessamine stood, well, more like floated there, smiling at Jem and Tessa.
"I'm sorry to ruin the moment, but can we please go inside so I can put Vanessa down somewhere?" Kyle asked, quietly. His eyes were puffy, and his face was still red from crying. Tessa knew thay carrying his dead sister couldn't be very good for him.
"Oh my, I'm sorry for being so ignorant, I forgot about Vanessa. Let's go in, I'm pretty sure they have someone here, although I'm not sure after Arthur Blackthorn transferred to go and run the Los Angeles Institute," said Tessa, motioning the group up the steps.
"They have appointed someone, but I haven't met them yet. All I know is that it's a young couple, not related to you for sure," said Jessamine.
Tessa nodded and gave Jessamine a small smile. "It was wonderful talking to you Jessie. I have missed you and Will so much."
"Don't worry Tessa. He's never far from where you are."
Tessa gave the ghost one last smile, then started up the institute's steps with the rest of the Shadowhunters.
Clary
"Yes mom, I'm perfectly safe...I'll explain everything when I get back...Tessa and Jem are still with us...Yes, Maryse knows we are staying here. Okay, bye mom. Love you." Clary ended the call with her mom, then sat up from the bed.
Everyone had been staying at the London Institute the past week or so. Two days after they had brought Vanessa back, everyone had gone to Idris for the funeral. Kyle and Lily had gone home after because they couldn't leave the New Jersey Institute empty and unprotected. As much as Clary wanted to go with them, to go back into Vanessa's room, in hopes to fill the empty void that had been created with her best friend's death, she knew that Kyle probably wanted some alone time to get the institute back on track, and to grieve her sister alone.
Jace had wanted to stay at the London Institute for a couple more weeks because his ancestors had lived in it, and he hoped that staying here for awhile might somehow make him feel closer to his dad. Tessa and Jace had been talking a lot. She would share stories about Will while he listened. It was shocking how similar the two were, with how Tessa described Will. They were both arrogant duck haters.
When Clary told her mom and Luke about what happened, they started freaking out. If she was still sixteen, she probably would've been grounded. Being twenty-one had its perks. Maryse freaked out when Izzy and Alec told her too, so she sent Robert to come and check up on them when they got back to the London Institute after the funeral, even though he had been there for it.
Isabelle walked into her room with a white, lace dress, the Shadowhunter color of mourning.
"Hey, you okay?" asked Izzy, as she sat down next to Clary on the bed.
Clary nodded. "I just miss her a lot. Vanessa was best friend for the last four years. She's helped me through so much, and she basically sacrificed herself for me." There were no tears. Clary had cried so much the first couple days, and during the funeral, that she had no more tears to cry.
