Chapter 9

Clary

Both Clary and Jace thundered up the Institute's steps and bursted through the doors. Without hesitation, Clary headed straight to the elevator. She didn't know where they were, but she knew where they could be.

Before the elevator doors opened completely, Clary had already ran out. She ran straight for the library, ignoring Jace as he yelled for her to stop behind him. She didn't want to stop. Clary pushed the doors of the library open and entered. She was both relieved, because they were in the room she predicted, and horrified, because Kyle, Lilly, Vanessa, Isabelle, and Alec were all in a cage, and Magnus was laying unconscious on the ground near them. Bethany was no where to be seen.

Clary ran to her friends. "What happened? Where is she?"

Kyle was in front of Clary, holding onto the bars so tight that his knuckles were white. "Lilly came into the library and she was screaming that Bethany was here. I said that it couldn't be possible because she was supposed to go meet up with you and Jace. Then, soon enough, she came in."

Vanessa was on the floor crying, as Lilly tried to comfort her, but got up and walked over to her brother. Through her shaky breathing and tears, she said, "That bitch knocked Magnus unconscious when he walked in, then she left the room. She was my sister. She still is my sister, and she's a cold hearted demon."

"Wow Nessa. I never knew you were the type to cuss." said a voice behind Clary.

She turned around and saw that Bethany was standing in front of the now closed doors with a smirk on her face.

"Don't call me that." Vanessa said harshly.

Bethany just rolled her eyes, then faced Clary. "I am so glad that you and my dear Jacey could join us."

"If you wanted us here, then why did you send us that note?"

Clary was surprised when it was Alec who answered instead of Bethany. "Because she didn't want you guys here when she invaded us."

"But why?" asked Clary.

"What I'm trying to figure out is how you snuck that cage into the Institute." said Jace.

"Because you both are stronger then her." yelled Vanessa, ignoring Jace's random comment.

"ENOUGH!" yelled Bethany. She snapped her fingers, and Clary and Jace reappeared in the cage with their friends.

"What are you?" Isabelle asked, shaking.

"Something much stronger then Sebastian Morgenstern." Bethany said.

"I've already asked this, but why are you doing this?" said Clary.

"For power." Bethany walked over to the cage, and crossed her arms. "Sebastian already had power, since birth. He was stronger than all Shadowhunters, and that is what I want to be. Stronger. But, as you know, there is no way."

"What about the Infernal Cup? She recreate it." interrupted Vanessa.

"She would lose control over her own body. A demon would take over. Also, an Endarkened isn't as strong as Sebastian was." answered Kyle.

"Ya ok, anyways." said Bethany, sounding annoyed. "Lilith has found a way for me to be stronger. I've almost completed the final stage. All I have to do is get rid of a couple people."

"Who are the people you have to get rid of?" asked Lilly.

"The people who killed Sebastian. Jace, Isabelle, Alec, Simon, and I." said Clary, who was now pacing because she was so nervous.
