yeah yeah I know i've been shit at uploading this week. but here you go, one dramatic long chapter
------------------------------------
when i woke up it was 5am, i didn't really want to wake up this early. but work is work. we've got lives to save. i do what i always do before i leave for work. i shower, throw on the uniform. then throw some tracksuit bottoms over the top. I check my phone for a bit. look over the weather. see what today is going to be like. and today it's saying midday it'll be around 40°. brilliant i think it's going to be bludy hot.
i grabbed my coffee. and headed out the door, there was no one on the beach besides a few runners. I walked down to the ocean. and sat in front of the waves i had a bit of time before the others would be arriving to help open up. The sun was starting to rise, I came here less than a few months ago. i arrived in Bondi unaware of what would become. And so much has happened in such a short amount of time. so much has changed. I've met the most amazing people, and they have quickly become my family. I've met Jake who i love so much. he's done so much for me, they all have. Whippet my best friend, and Chappo it's mad. i love them so much.
"Hey you're here early." I looked up to see Deano. I smiled, after being pulled from my thoughts. "Oh yeah. Woke up early, thought I'd come down, before the madness starts." I said. "Oh yeah no I totally get it, I'm just finishing some training. Are you alright? You looked in some pretty deep thought there." He asked as he sat down. I started laughing. "Yeah im all good, just thinking about how much has happened, these last few months. Yanno." He hummed in acknowledgment. "You're part of the team, always will be, you've made such a difference to the team, everyone including myself, we all care so much about you, and will protect you always. As you saw with Joe." Deano reassured. I cringed at his name, but yet smiled at what Deano said to me, everyone really did like me and it wasn't just because I had a job here, he had a point, the boys did save my life. Which was kind of ironic, due to our job title being lifeguards. "Thank you Deano." He nodded. "Shall we go and unlock the tower. Jesse should be here soon." He stood up and gave me a hand up and we headed to the tower to kickstart the day.
Few Hours later, it's almost midday, there's quite a lot of us on duty. The beach is filling up. And the sets are smashing the rocks. I was down south with Chappo. We were chatting to some of the locals. "So how does it feel to be the only girl on the lifeguard team?" One of them said. "Haha I mean it's quite interesting, especially when things get a bit heated its all man testosterone." I laughed. Chappo nudged me, "hey we never see it get heated on the show?" The local said. "Yeah well it doesn't show every single burning second." Chappo responded. "But nah its pretty cool, but I guess I have to work that little bit harder to impress the boss, and keep him thinking im up for the job still I guess." I replied. Chappo put his arms around my shoulder. "Nah she's one of the boys." We all laughed. Until me and Chap both noticed at exactly the same time, three to four people falling off the bank and being sucked out. "Sorry lads but we've got to run." I said. Ripping of my shirt and climbing out of the Rhino. "Chips we only have one board." I said . He looked around and spotted one a few metres up the beach. I saw where he was looking. "You take that one, I'll go grab that one go." He said, I grabbed the board and ran, whilst Chips let the boys know before running off. As soon as I hit the water I could see 4 to 5 heads, and knew I had to get to them, and support them until Chips got to us. However I saw one right out the back who was in the most trouble. So I paddled out past the swimmers in front of me. "I'll be right back, I've just got to get the girl out the back ok." I yelled at them. I noticed a surfer and whistled for him, asking to help until chips could get here.
Once I reached the girl, she was pretty much blue. She wasn't awake, as I pulled her onto my board. I checked for a pulse and couldn't find one. I started to panic a little. I saw Chips with the other patients clinging to his board, then I saw a few other blue boards, around him. I gave the three pumps, acknowledging that they would be watching from the tower. Then I started CPR compressions whilst on the board. But stopped after realising I needed to get her in asap. A set loomed and I got her in the proper position, as difficult as it was with her being a dead weight in the ocean. I caught a wave back to shore and a few of the boys were there to help me get her in. Deano, Chips, Reidy and Jesse. We got her up the beach onto dry sand and I started compressions as soon as we layed her down. "Are you ok Caitlin?" Deano asked. "Yeah." I said as I kept going. "Ok attach the defib." Chips said, I didn't stop. "Get an ambulance!" I shouted. *Jess to tower, Corey we need an ambo. Started compressions, defibrillator attached.* *copy* "Caitlin stop, let the defibrillator work" Reidy said. "Nobody touch her." Deano added. "Analysing" the box ran out. "Unable to shock, undetected rhythm. Resume cpr." As soon as it said that I started compressions again. 1,2,3,4,... and so on. "Do you need to swap?" Jesse asked. "No no im fine. One more set." I breathed. "Anyone got a pulse?" And to my relief. "Yes yes I got a pulse we have a pulse." I let out a huge sigh and stopped. The boys took over as I stood up and walked backwards a bit. I spotted the paramedics coming down on the buggy with Jeth. As they pulled out, and assessed the woman. They took her straight up and into the ambo. "Good job guys, Caitlin good work on the compressions and getting her in, we just saved another one guys. Good work, I'm proud of all of you." Deano announced. "Hey you alright?" Chappo asked, "yeah im fine, we got her back." I took a deep breathe, grabbed the board and placed it back on the buggy.
