Icebergs and bad news

caitlin's pov
i was wearing a black dress with heels. and i tied my hair up, and headed out
to the bar. outside there was still quite a lot of people out which made sense considering it was a friday night, and was still quite early. the sun was just setting and i was walking past the pavilion. I was running quite late and it was nearly 8 by the time i got there. I entered the bar, and heard cheering and lots of talking. I try to spot the Jake or the others at least. I see Deano at the bar and head over.
"hey deano."
"oh hey Caitlin Jake said you were coming but he was worried you weren't going to make it."
"yeah i know i was running a bit late i took ages to get ready ahaha, sorry." he laughed and offered to buy me a drink, so i refused and bought him a drink as a thank you for the other day.
"thank you caitlin i appreciate it, i guess it all makes it worth it to see you still standing here." I smiled at him and he took me over to the table where the rest of the boys were.
"hey boys this is caitlin she made it here  eventually."
I sat down next to Jake and we started to chat.
"so Caitlin, what are you doing here in Bondi?" one of the guys asked, which i remember being Chappo from the show one of my favourite haha.
"oh well i was supposed to be over for the summer season looking after my aunts apartment but turns out she's moved to america and has left it to me to live in and stay. so i guess i've moved here now." the boys cheered
"that's soo cool, does that mean we'll be seeing more of you?" Reidy asked
i laughed and agreed "hopefully because i love being down the beach, but i need to find a job sometime soon!"
we continued chatting and i asked them about lifeguarding and what it was like. and how i surfed a lot etc. I went to the bar to get another drink and I received a call, so i headed outside.

"hello?"
"hey Caitlin it's Harry." the voice of my brother ringed out.
"oh hey harry how are you what's up?" knowing he never calls me...
"um are you alone?" i started to get a bad feeling in my stomach.
"yh i'm actually out at the minute but i can talk i'm outside."
"so um it's mum, her situation worsened last night, and i'm sorry but she's gone. our mum is gone Caitlin." I freeze, i was never close to my mum but we had a good relationship when we saw each other. She was an alcoholic and wasn't the best of people. but she was my mum and i loved her.
"caitlin? hello?"
"i'm sorry harry i have to go." he started saying something but i just hung up.
I wouldn't cry. not here i couldn't. id just met these guys and they were super nice. i'm not going to trouble them with my problems.
Suddenly a hand touched my shoulder.

Jakes pov:
i didn't hear who was on the phone or what was said but she'd froze, and even though her face was away from me i knew something was up. I reached out to her shoulder and as soon as i did she flinched and turned around, she looked as if she'd seen a ghost.
"what's wrong?" i questioned.
"nothing, im all good." she smiled, fake
" are you sure you can talk to me you know."
" thank you but honestly i don't want to talk about it right now." i just hugged her. and she hugged me. we sat in silence for a couple minutes.

caitlin's pov
the hug was nice but if it went on any longer i'd get emotional. I can't do that right now.
"come on let's go i'm sure the boys will be missing you, let alone us getting behind on the drinks.
"heyyy caitlin your back." Whippet cheered.
"here we are doing shots." chappo handed me and jake one as we sat down.
me, jake, chappo, whippet, jesse, maxi all took the shot. there faces were a picture, i think me and jesse were the only ones who didn't flinch. we all laughed, and drunk the night away.
a couple of hours later, Deano, and Reidy had all gone home, and i think the rest of us decided to leave too. We were walking along the pavilion, when Maxi picked me up and ran down the ramp to the beach.
"hey boys i think we should go for a swim." we were all laughing. i was screaming,
"maxi put me down." he was knee deep by this point.
"as you wish Caitlin."
"no no no" too late he'd dropped me i was now soaked. we all messed about in the ocean for a bit. it was so funny all splashing each other. we weren't smashed but we were a little tipsy. I headed out and sat on the beach. Jake and Whippet joined me.
"this has been such a good night, thanks for inviting me Jake." i said with a smile.
"no worries it has been pretty funny. oh hang on i'm going to have to go and rescue Chips from the troubling twosome." he said giggling.
I watched Jake run back in as Maxi and Jesse were bullying chappo.
I sighed.
"hey what's wrong?" whip asked
i think the alcohol stopped my barrier of defence and i just ranted.
"so i got a call from my brother who i haven't heard from in a while, and i do love him, but yanno anyway he told me that my mum had passed away." he didn't say anything for a while. and then  he just said "i'm so sorry." i explained what she was like and how i'll miss her but it's been a long time coming, and she kind of did it to herself.
"i get it it's tough, having a parent like that i bet. but i'm always here if you wanna chat." i thanked him and we changed the subject. the boys all came out of the water. Maxi and jesse headed back home. and Jake, Chappo and Whippet all said they'd walk me home.
me and Jake were walking closely together. "hey so what were you and whip talking about earlier?" i basically explained he had the same look that whip did, so i further explained. He said "Caitlin you are so strong, honestly, i'm so glad i met you." i smiled and held his hand, we continued like this all the way back home. "thanks guys for walking me back, i appreciate it." they all thanked me, and asked if i'd be back down the beach tomorrow.
"more than likely, if the weathers nice." and they all hugged me and said bye. I went inside, got into bed and had a little cry for my mum, I must've fell asleep whilst doing so.
