The Pendulum's Swing

I have really high moments
When laughter fills the air
A sunbeam breaking through clouds
A bare heart
Joyful in its own way
Dancing on the edge of dreams
Where the possibilities
Stretch far and wide

Then comes the really low moments
When shadows creep in
Moments where the edge
Is closer
Then the ground ever was
Moments that make
My eyes swell,
N' my chest pound
I don't know if this is anxiety
Or a panic attack
But I do know
Thinking about it
Makes each breath harder
I get on my knees every night sometimes

Seeking solace in prayer,
A desperate whisper to the universe
For balance, for peace,
For the pendulum to slow its violent swing.
For the high moments to linger longer,
And the shadows to lose their grip.
For breath to come easy again,
And for my heart to remember
That even in darkness,
Dawn is always waiting.
