Love, lost self discovery

If only you knew the feelings I've felt,
A love once known, where my heart dwelt.
Indescribable, ours was a unique embrace,
I was a chapter, she was my title's grace.

A chapter or two in her book,
Yet she filled the pages I undertook.
A misguided love, a lesson in disguise,
If given the chance, I'd relive those ties.

For she taught me what not to do,
In her absence, clarity grew.
We never cherish time's fleeting grace,
Until it's gone, leaving an empty space.

Sometimes it hurts like hell to part,
But staying would've broken my heart.
I'm the same girl you claimed to adore,
Yet you couldn't uphold what you swore.

You were every thought I thought I needed,
But you showed me what should be heeded.
I forgive you, not to erase the pain,
But to free my soul from its chain.

Love shouldn't hurt this bad,
Yet from this, I've grown and am glad.
I love me more, and with this truth,
A new story must begin in my youth.

And in the ashes of what was,
I found the strength to rise anew, because.
