Simple Gifts, Deeper Love

When the pen meets paper,
Words usually pour—
But today, I find myself reaching
For something quieter, more true.

It's our first Valentine's,
And though cards never felt like me,
I wanted to show you
That care lives in the simplest gestures.

So, in this bag—
A handful of small comforts
Chosen from our shared laughter,
And from moments you thought I didn't notice.

Epsom salt, for your aching back—
A candle to soften the world
While you soak in warmth,
And oil for gentle hands to follow,
Because you deserve nothing less
Than princess treatment.

House shoes and a bonnet—
Pink, I know, forgive me—
Because last time, you braved the night
With cold feet and unguarded curls,
Arriving in a rush,
Trusting me with your unpreparedness.

Mace, for the nights you wander
Under distant city lights—
A little shield,
Because I worry when you're out
Chasing dreams past midnight.

Two pairs of crystal earrings—
Handmade, maybe never worn,
But a nod to black business,
And the beauty of supporting
Stories woven by hands I know.

At the bottom, an all-black sweatsuit—
You've searched for one,
And I searched for you,
Finding the world in your smile.

You mean the world to me—
Thank you for letting me in,
For letting me notice
The little aches and needs,
For letting me love you
In ways that are simple,
But never small.
