The True Test

The true test
of love's strength
is only revealed
when we're both in hot water.

Rudy Francisco once said:

If I was a love poet,
I'd write about how you have the audacity
to be beautiful
even on days
when everything around you is ugly.
I'd write about your eyelashes,
how they are like violin strings
that play symphonies
every time you blink.

But if Rudy was me,
I'm certain he would have written
about how your smile
could warm the coldest of hearts,
and how the truest melody
lives in your voice
whenever you speak.

How could a woman
who's crossed oceans just to find me
be this perfect?

A woman who,
even on her worst days,
fights jungles of demons
yet still shines—
her smile brighter than the sun,
her light never dimming,
her hand always reaching
to lift someone else.

I bet Rudy didn't know
about this kind of woman.
The rarest of the rare.
One who's been through the most,
but it made her the best.

Far from selfish,
she thinks of others
before she thinks of herself.

She pushes through
those hard days
like a gold medalist,
emerging victorious,
always on top.

I see her in a light
I've never seen anyone before.
And every day,
I am grateful for her.

I am thankful
that she will be
the only woman
fitting to bear my children.

That she holds
the key to my heart,
as I hold the will
to be better,
to do better,
to be everything she needs.

Yes, I know
it isn't feasible
to be everything to someone.

But I can only hope
that the love I have
for this woman
is translated
perfectly in writing.

That my words
don't just serve,
but my actions speak
far louder than my words
ever could.

Because Rudy...
this woman
is unlike any woman
you've ever seen.

She's not just a mother,
but a protector—
an artist
who knows no bounds.

She is traditional,
but not in the sense
that she stays home and cooks.
Traditional in the way
she gives a house
the definition
of home.

How she prioritizes family,
works hard,
loves even harder.
Supportive.
Feminine.

She is my true test.

She wasn't my first lover,
and neither was I hers.
But she plays both fields
like a pro,
mastering life
right in front of my eyes,
captivating my soul.

She is everything
to me, and more.

Rudy—
she's the true test.
