After the war, everyone was distraught.
Voldemort was dead. Hogwarts was torn apart. Bodies from brave warriors and war victims were gathered in the great hall, where laughter were once heard. Now all you can hear is wailing, screaming. Grieving for the wizards and witches who fought bravely. Those who stood their ground.
Y/N Potter was still in shock. She could not believe that her friends are gone, she can't see them again. She didn't even say goodbye to them, for she thought she will be able to complete her seventh year in Hogwarts with her. She's standing in the entrance to the great hall. Her feet are frozen in place, she could not move. She watched as the remaining Weasleys and other members of the Order try to gather and identify the dead. She saw some of her classmates, people she interacted with, laying down and is lifeless. She saw friends, people she shared secrets with and memories with once in her 7 years in Hogwarts.
Those familiar faces running around, counting and identifying the dead. She was never part of the Order of the Phoenix. Even though being Harry Potter's twin sister, nobody seemed to trust her. They had meetings without her. Merlin, she wasn't even invited to join the infamous "Dumbledore's Army" just because she was a Slytherin. The famous Harry Potter's sister was in Slytherin, what a shame.
But she didn't let that get in the way, she still managed to enjoy her time in Hogwarts. She lived under Harry's shadow, but it was alright. At least she doesn't get too much attention, she only gets attention when people actually remembers that she is Harry's twin sister.
She was so invested in watching the scene in front of her, that she didn't notice one of her friends, Draco Malfoy, stood beside her.
"I'm really sorry." he whispered, with so much guilt in his voice one could mistaken him as the one who killed those people. "I was the one who started it all."
Y/N didn't talk. She was too tired to respond. Instead, she held Draco's hand to comfort him, a way to tell him that he may be a part of the cause, but she knows how much he regrets his actions.
She knew that Draco Malfoy, despite popular belief, Y/N saw a side of Draco that no one saw. His vulnerable side. The one he'd show in his fourth year to his sixth— gods, especially his sixth.
Even though Y/N Potter and Draco Malfoy were seen together all the time during their years at Hogwarts (because of having the same circle of friends), they didn't really had a deep connection. Yes, they are friends — sometimes they share jokes to each other, they would choose each other as partners in class when none of their friends are in the same class, and they even treat each other butterbeer. But they never told each other secrets, nor had a deep connection with one another.
Little did Y/N Potter know, that moment led to something she didn't see coming. Things between them changed.
Y/N decided to not return to Hogwarts to finish her 7th year at Hogwarts after the war, after they've restored everything. She cut all contacts with everybody back in the Wizarding World, and that included her brother. She decided to spend her days in the muggle world, trying each coffee shop, reading all of the muggle books that she could read. She reconnected with a few friends that she made before her years at Hogwarts, and even reached out to Dudley Dursley, her cousin. She just wanted to try to at least forget everything that happened there. It was too painful.
She was alone in the muggle world for two whole years. At her mind, it was peaceful. But at the back of her head, she knew that she was lonely too.
Little did she know, Draco did the same. Everyone had their own process of grief, and Draco Malfoy's was to spend his days in the muggle world. Draco spent his time getting to know the new world ahead of him. The very people he was raised to despise, were the very people who is helping him with his grieving process.
