paubaya

The pain of letting someone go when you have to is unbearable. With letting someone go, you also have to let go of all the plans you two could've done, places you two could've been to, and all the things that you're used to do with them by your side. It would change everything.

Letting go wasn't always the plan for both you and Draco Malfoy.

Draco Malfoy asked you to be his girlfriend on your fifth year at Hogwarts. It was the most beautiful experience you've ever had. You grew as a person during the time that you were dating Draco Malfoy in Hogwarts. You learned a lot of things about love that you didn't know before because you haven't even experienced it before. You learned how to understand misunderstood people like Draco, and you learned how to love someone who is very hard to love, like Draco.

Even though he was going through a hard time in his sixth year, he never chose to give you up, even if it means that he was putting your life on the line. He never gave up on your relationship despite the fact that he himself is having problems with the mission that the Dark Lord gave to him. Instead of pushing you away just to protect you, you became his motivation to do what he was forced to do, to just keep on going because he often tells himself that if he would just give up, you would die or be put in danger and he doesn't want that.

You learned how to be strong for him because you were his anchor, the one who keeps him sane, the one who gives him courage to do what he has to do. The one who makes him get up in the morning and push through the day despite being very tired because of his lack of sleep. He was depending on you to be strong and because of that, you learned how to stand up on your own feet and be the strength he never had.

All of the nights the both of you spent in the Astronomy Tower planning for your future was one of the things that Draco was holding on to whenever he was unsteady. Whenever he feels like surrendering and whenever he feels like giving up. He would ask you to meet him to the Astronomy Tower, and he would listen to all your plans you had with him, even if he heard it a million times already. Whenever he was uncertain of the future, he would hold your hand and tell you what he plans to do with you when you two survived the war.

You told him that you want to build a family with him someday. You told him that he was the only guy who you want to get married to and who you want to make your vows with. You wanted him to be the person who'll be on the altar, crying as you approach him. You wanted him to be the father of your children, and you wanted him to be the person you want to see first thing in the morning as you wake up. He was the one you want to grow old with, because you just love him so much that you don't know what future looks like without him in it.

Whenever he would talk about the possibility of death, you would always look at him and tell him, "I'm sorry, in what future are we not together? You are going to grow old with me, and we will be drinking a lot of butterbeer while we watch our kids grow as adults and start their own family. Of course you have to see them grow up, Draco. So you have to put this inside your brain - you are not gonna die."

It wasn't only Draco who was protecting you. You were protecting him as well. From what? From the demons inside his head.

After the war, when everything was done, when everything was over, Draco Malfoy was one of the people who has so many battle scars left by the war. He was one of the people who were so deeply affected by the war that he would have nightmares about the war and he would often cry until he falls asleep again. He also has to fight the demons inside his head left by the trauma and the pain caused by both his father and the Dark Lord, who seemed to team up together to make Draco's demons eat him alive. Your task was to protect Draco from his demons, and be there for him whenever he needs someone to hold him because he's falling apart. The wounds are too deep, and the damage was way beyond repair.
