How would you know the difference between wanting to be someone's friend from that someone is in love with you? Honestly, its really hard to tell. If you assumed and jump into conclusions, it would break your heart if what you expected wasn't the reality. If you ignored the signs and just show the person that you aren't really interested, then they would stop because they thought that you don't like them and they will give up or look for another. Love is a really confusing thing and it just brings heart ache and head ache all at the same time.

That is what happened to our boy, Draco Malfoy.

He liked this girl named Y/N L/N. Pretty name huh. Well, she has a pretty heart too, and Draco liked her the moment he laid his eyes on her, which was on his first year. And ever since that day he's been trying to catch her attention or at least befriend her. She was a shy girl, she rarely talks to people around her, and she only have a handful of friends. She trusts few and it was better that way, it would reduce the chances of her being betrayed.

She was also constantly bullied and made fun of in the corridors by other Slytherins, like Crabbe and Goyle. It would infuriate Draco Malfoy whenever his friends and classmates would do that to Y/N, so he would protect her in ways that are not obvious to hide Draco from embarrassment and so Crabbe and Goyle won't know his little crush on Y/N. He would sometimes make fun of her, but so that he would stop them from making fun of Y/N. He would turn their attention to other students from other houses, sometimes he would ask Goyle and Crabbe to make fun of Hermione Granger so that Y/N can leave with peace. Crabbe would find it odd that Draco Malfoy would do that but he never have the balls to ask Draco Malfoy about it.

Sometimes, when Marcus Flint would push Y/N so she would fall, Draco Malfoy would help her up. He would pick up all the books that fell, the papers that were scattered everywhere, and the quills that was on the floor and would help her up, and smile at her, then give all her things that fell. Then, he would walk away, not knowing what to say to her because her very presences makes him nervous, makes him tongue-tied, and makes his feet jelly. Y/N L/N has that kind of impact on him.

Of course, Y/N was not a dumb-dumb, she would notice what Draco would do for her. She was confused though, as to what Draco wants. Does he want to be her friend or does he want to date her, she does not know. She wishes to ask Draco though, just to make things easy for Y/N. But she doesn't talk to him and they weren't in speaking terms so it might seem weird for him if she would just talk to him. So she just let him, even though she can't stop thinking about him. Because of the confusing signs that Draco would show her, she would just ignore him and would tell herself that he just wanted to be her friend or that it was in his nature to help other people or he was just kind enough.

Then the signs became clearer...that is to Draco Malfoy's perspective.

He would stare at Y/N in classes, and from time to time Y/N would catch him looking at her. At first she thought that he was just looking at the person beside her because why would someone like Draco Malfoy look at her as if she was so beautiful? She doesn't understand how someone as good-looking and as famous as Draco Malfoy would like her, so as usual she just ignored it. She kept living her life and just enjoy learning even though at times it would get tough. But then, when Draco noticed that she wasn't getting the message, he would start flirting with her in public.

The first persons to know Draco's crush on Y/N was Pansy, Blaise, and Theodore. Draco asked them for advice as to how he would actually grow close to Y/N. It was Blaise Zabini's idea for Draco to approach Y/N and just give it a shot and not mess things up. At first Draco didn't like that idea, but Blaise said that it would not only make Y/N close to Draco but also there might be a chance for Y/N to date Draco. That's when Draco decided to flirt with Y/N.

It started small, with winking that makes Y/N blush to complimenting her and telling her how beautiful she was. Of course Y/N was flattered, she wasn't used to this kind of treatment so she slowly started falling for Draco. She enjoyed it every time he calls her "Beautiful" or when he jokingly asks her to Hogsmeade. Deep down there was a voice telling her that she shouldn't fall for the blonde boy for he might just be playing games with her. That maybe she'll be hurt in the end and Y/N doesn't want that. She was scared to be heart broken, to be played by Draco Malfoy.

Despite her feelings for him, she still didn't talk to him. She still didn't show him that she was actually interested in him because she doesn't want him to know that she likes him because she knew that he would eventually stop, that he would get the message and move on, so that she won't fall in love with him even more.

But he didn't stop. He was actually sincere when he said that he wanted to take her out to Hogsmeade. That he actually meant every "Y/N you're looking pretty today." and every "I really want to get to know you more so let's go to Hogsmeade this Saturday." He actually wants to get to know Y/N more. But Y/N was just so careful not to get hurt that she just ignored him.

But they got close, they became friends. Draco would always sit beside her during classes and they would talk a lot. Draco also introduced her to Pansy, Blaise, and Theodore who welcomed her and treated her as a friend. Y/N felt very comfortable with Pansy, Blaise, and Theo that she would tell them details about her life and whenever she has a problem she would tell them. And she even told them about Draco and her feelings for him.

During this time, Draco started befriending Astoria Greengrass, a pretty girl 2 years younger than you and Draco. Y/N, of course, felt jealousy because of how friendly Draco seems to be with Astoria. But he was friendly to Y/N too so she just assumed that Astoria was nothing but a friend to Draco so Y/N don't really mind it and she just ignored that. Which was her first mistake.

"I swear to Merlin Y/N he likes you too." Blaise said, when you four were talking about Draco in the Great Hall during lunch. "He would talk endlessly about you in our dorm room. "

"True, and that's also the reason why he wanted to befriend you in the first place, is to get to know you more and to finally have the courage to ask you out." Theodore said

"Give Draco a chance, Y/N. Maybe, just maybe, you two will end up together, you know, endgame. "

"Maybe."

"Just tell him that you like him and let him do all the work because he liked you first." Pansy said.

"I'll do that."

And so she did. She looked for Draco everywhere that afternoon. She looked for him in her classes, in the library and even in his favorite spot by the lake. But no luck. Her eagerness of telling him was just accelerating and each hour she just wants to see him and tell him how much he means to her and that she just wants to be with him. She wasn't afraid of rejection anymore. She just wants to be with Draco.

But her heart broke into a million pieces when she saw Draco and Astoria.

At first she was glad that she finally saw Draco but she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Draco and Astoria talking. What broke her was their conversation.

"...so do you want to go to Hogsmeade with me?" Draco asked.

"Sure, Draco!" Astoria said. And that's all she heard for she had tears flowing down her eyes as she ran, ran far away from that stupidblonde ferret, away from the boy who she like so much that he broke her heart into a million pieces. Funny who the night changes so fast.
