bridesmaid
Usually, when somebody tells you that you would be their bridesmaid, you would feel honored. You would feel happy because they have a lot of friends, they know a lot of ladies that they can turn into their bridesmaid but they chose you because you were special to them, you mean a lot to them because they chose you as their bridesmaid. They trust you enough to know that you would be there to witness one of the special events in their lives, and they want you to be a friend to them, you're supposed to do things for your friend.
But why does it hurt?
Why did you consider turning down Astoria Greengrass' offer to be her bridesmaid in her wedding even though she was your best friend? Why did you cry when you got the invitation
Why does it hurt when you think about the wedding? Why does it hurt when you look at the invitation and see Astoria Greengrass and Draco Malfoy's name? Why does it hurt to think that your best friend, the person you thought of as a sister, is marrying the love of your life? Why does it still hurt after so many years? These whys kept haunting you even to the moment that you received Astoria and Draco's invitation to their wedding. These whys are still hurting you, even when Astoria asked you to be her bridesmaid.
It did hurt, especially if you think about the regrets that you have because you were too late, you were a day late, just a day. It does hurt, when you think about the love you could've have but was too ignorant to take care of. It broke you, when you think about the fact that your best friend will get the life you dreamed of.
Let me bring you back to Memory Lane, on the day you actually planned to tell Draco but was too late for he already confessed his love for Astoria Greengrass, your best friend.
It was your fifth year, and Astoria's third. The year before the world turned upside down. The year where you last enjoyed the company of your friends for the next year you suddenly avoided them. The year when you get your heart broken. You were with Draco Malfoy that day, because you two were really good friends. You were with him because you really liked him since second year, but he does not know that. You were meaning to tell him though, because you really want to be honest with him. But you'd get scared because the cliche, you don't want to lose him.
You two were walking to your first class of the day, Draco was walking beside you because you both have the same class. He also likes walking you to your classes because he would tell you stories on your way to your classes. It was a friendly thing that he'd do to you, and those walks to classes are really special to you since you get to spend time with the person you like. And he is showing you that he cares for you through looking out for you.
There was this walk though when you actually thought you'd be telling him that you like him, but of course, you didnt. But he did ask a question about the person you liked and you almost, almost, told him that it was him, the person that you liked.
"Y/N?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you like someone?" he asked. "I just want to ask you a question."
"Yes, I-I do like someone, why?"
"What will you do if you want to be with that someone? Will you get to know them first before you ask them out?"
