boggart

"Draco, Draco wake up." you said, shaking the boy gently, hoping that he would wake up.

"Mhm?" he groaned, his eyes are still closed, and he only moved his eyebrows. You can't blame him, it was an ungodly hour and you shouldn't be waking him up. You felt because he was sleeping so peacefully, but you really have to wake him up.

"Draco please wake up." you said, shaking him a little harder the second time. That's when he finally opened his eyes. He saw your scared face, and he instantly sat up, thinking you had another nightmare. His hair was all over the place and his eyes were only half open.

It has been 2 years after the war had ended, and the battle scars that it left are still very fresh and you would often have nightmares about it, especially when you saw your parents being killed by the Death Eaters. They didn't show them mercy, and the worst part was, you were tied but when they got killed so you couldn't do anything about it. And your mother's screams and your father's dead body still gives you nightmares until thst day, that's why your staying in the Malfoy Manor with Draco because he's only a few rooms away from you and you could go to him everytime you have these heartbreaking nightmares. And that was also why you were living in the Malfoy Manor with the Malfoys, they asked you to live with them since you have nowhere to go.

"Love, its what, 3 AM, why are you still awake?" he asked you. "Another nightmare?"

"No, Draco. I think there's a boggart in my room. It took the form of the Dark Lord so I am assuming its a boggart. He's not back, right?"

"No, I don't think he's back, Y/N. If he is, then the entire wizarding world, or at least Potter and his friends would speak about it." he said, rubbing his eyes. "Do you want me to remove the boggart for you?"

"Yes please." You were surprised as to why Draco was still very calm despite you disturbing his sleep, and he was so patient with you. He removed his covers from his body, revealing his blue pajamas and his white shirt that he usually uses whenever he sleeps. He got out of bed and grabbed your wrist, leading you to your room.

Draco wasn't afraid if what his boggart would be because he figured that it would be the same when he was on his third year, it would be his father. But what he didn't know was that it changed, and he didn't get to brace himself for it.

When he opened the door, he saw himself, standing with his back turned. When it turned around, it didn't look like his present self for it looked younger and more tired. The boggart was wearing a black suit, black tie, and the legendary slytherin pin on his tie. There were dark circles underneath his eyes and his skin was very pale and yet his hair was neatly brushed. It was him on his sixth year, the darkest year of his life. The year he learned how to release the demons that were inside of him. The year that he learned and discovered how to solve his own problems and how to accomplish something by himself without involving his wealth or his father's name. The year when he became the monster he never wanted to be.

It took a few minutes for Draco to process what he was seeing in front of him. Why was he scared of himself?

Then it hit him. He wasn't afraid of himself but he was afraid of what he is capable of doing to others. He was afraid of the monster that he become, the power he has that if used for selfish reasons or used in a wrong way, it could lead to others hurting, breaking, or worst, dying.

With tears at the corners of his eyes, he slowly remembered the spell that should be casted to get rid of the boggart. He closed his eyes and pictured one funny moment in his life, something that he could use to repel the creature in front of him. He took a deep breath before opening his eyes again, seeing his greatest fear. He squeezed your hand before saying, "Riddikulus!"

-

"Draco, why are you afraid of yourself?" you asked him. After what happened inside your room, you weren't ready to go back there yet, so you went back to Draco's room with him. Plus, you figured that maybe he needs you after that encounter with the boggart. That's what the both of you would do whenever the other has nightmares. After they'd calm down, the other will stay until they fall asleep, waking up in each other's arms the next day.

"I was thinking about that, and I figured maybe I wasn't afraid of who I am, but of what I can do. What I am capable of. I did many terrible things during my sixth year at Hogwarts, Y/N. Terrible things that I didn't know I could do, things that until now, I'm still figuring out how i did it without feeling guilty. I got lucky those people whom I hurt are still alive today and that I didn't kill them, or else my guilt will follow me to the grave. I know that I'm not the most kindest person growing up because I was definitely not an angel. But I didn't know that I am a monster as well."

"Draco." you said, whilst rubbing his back. "Don't say that you're a monster because you are really not. You are just like them, a victim of the circumstances. A boy threatened by a monster, being asked to pick between death or death, because your task during your sixth year, I know that you weren't supposed to accomplish it, it was a trap. And yet for the sake of your loved ones, since the Dark Lord was holding them captive, he was using them to blackmail you, you still tried and do what you are asked to do. For me, you are one of the most bravest. Nobody could've done what you did. You found a way for death eaters to enter the castle through the vanishing cabinet, and you yourself mended that which no sixteen year old boy could've done. Sure, it may be wrong, but you didn't have a choice. You were afraid too. And you are definitely not a monster."

He smiled at you, wanting to thank you for being there for him at his weakest. Even though between the both of you, you were the one who'd have frequent nightmares, you were the fragile one who constantly need someone to hold her for her to calm down. But in reality, Draco needs you too, because you are his Achilles heel, his strength and his weakness. The reason why he was still fighting for his life despite the pain caused by the war. You are his anchor, you keep him still amidst the dark waves of guilt. He was thankful that you were there to hold his hand as the both of you walk through Tartarus together.
