~ a moonlit walk ~

---

Blood, rocks, bodies. Everywhere you look, that's the only thing you would see. The entire halls that was once filled with joy and laughter are now dominated by silence, only the footsteps of those who survived can be heard, them dragging the bodies they found in different corners of the place they once called home.

This was what it looked like after they have won against Voldemort.

Everybody should be celebrating because they were once again victorious, but it seems wrong. There was too many lives taken because of the war that all they wanted to do was mourn. They all hugged their friends who are still alive, silently crying for their loss.

There were volunteers who wanted to help look for more bodies, some just stayed still. They were drained—both physically and mentally. The war was too much to handle, and all of them just wanted to sleep. Some who doesn't have a friend to hold, like Y/N L/N because her best friend died and she cannot see her other friend, Draco Malfoy, so Y/N just sat there, hugging her knees and watched everybody do their thing.

There were a million things going on inside her head. Here's some of her thoughts...

One. She doesn't know where Draco was. Unfortunately, she wasn't there when  Draco and his family fled, so she doesn't know where he is. She anxiously look st every body that was brought to the Great Hall, and she would feel relived that it was not Draco.

Two. She can't help but feel bad for those who died during the war. They deserve to live longer and they are all innocent and did nothing wrong. But they are now called the spoils of war. And that pained Y/N. At some point, these people were her friends and teachers, but now she won't see them again.

It was painful to think about.

"Hey, Y/N?" Someone said. She looked up to see one of her friends in the Slytherin house, Theodore Nott. She smiled at him, though he knew that that smile was fake. "Cass told me that you are looking for Malfoy? Well, I saw him leave with his family, so you don't have to worry about him."

Y/N gave him a nod, and he left. A wave of relief swarmed over her, and she finally felt at ease. At least one of her friends are alright. That Draco was at least alive.

But there was still something.

Why did he leave?

This question stayed with Y/N even hours after Theodore Nott spoke to her. She continued staring at those people mourning for the loss of their loved one. She just sat there, without feeling anything. Her heart, empty.

There were a few people who checked on her, asking if she was hurt. She just smiled at them and told them that she was alright. She doesn't want to talk to anybody. They can't possibly heal the aching inside her heart.

Suddenly, when Y/N was staring at the wall, somebody had sat beside her. She thought it was one of those volunteer students who tried to tend to all injured students, but no.

It was Draco Malfoy.

"Hey. You alright?" He asked. Y/N was too stunned to speak. She didn't expect him to talk to her after a school year of him ignoring her.

She only nodded as a response.

"I left with my parents earlier, but I can't seem to be still. I was worried that you might get hurt, that's why I came back." He explained. Y/N looked at him with disbelief, and he smiled. "Don't worry, my mom knows."

There was a moment of silence between them. Y/N still doesn't have the energy to talk, and she doesn't know what to tell Draco. A year of not talking to each other has built a wall between the two of them, and even though they know each other longer than a year of not talking to each other, they still have to break down the wall that time built so that they may have a decent conversation.

He finally broke the silence, saying, "Do you wanna go for a walk?"

The walk was awkward. Draco was right beside Y/N, but there was a good amount of distance between them. Not too near, not that far. It was just right.

Y/N did not realize that it was already afternoon, and that it has been already hours since Voldemort was killed. Draco and Y/N were walking towards the Lake.

"Why'd you come back?" Y/N said all of a sudden. Those were her first words after the war. Draco looked at her, then looked at the lake again, as if admiring it's beauty.

"I wanted to see if you were alive." Draco said, not looking at her. "How about you? Why did you stay here?"

"Maybe because somehow I knew you were coming back." She replied, her gaze were fixed at the mountains. She felt Draco look at her.

"I've been a coward." He said, after a few minutes of silence. "I ran away again."

Y/N didn't talk. She just enjoyed the feeling of the breeze and the sun hitting her face, and Draco's scent. Somehow, he had the time to put his favorite perfume in between the war. Lucky guy.

"Why do you want to see if I was alive?" It was  Y/N's turn to ask. "Why did you come back when in fact you are much safer inside your Manor. The ministry will question you and your family and I'm pretty sure that they'll haunt you down."

"It's because I wanted to tell you something that I couldn't tell you before. And this war made me realize that I should've told you this before. I promised myself that if you are alive after the war, I'll tell you. And here we are."

"What is it?"

"I like you. I've been liking you since 2nd year, and I only realized my feelings for you lately.

"I know I was a jerk to you before, but despite our bad beginning, you were still there to help me and listen to me and just bee a good friend, especially during our sixth year.

"And I shouldn't be falling in love with you, but I did. It's totally okay if you don't like me back. But I'll still pursue you. I'll prove to you how much I love you. Just give me a chance."

As the sun sets in front of her eyes, she  learned about Draco's feelings for her. She did not reply to him, because her heart was telling you otherwise. So, she just held his hand as they watched the sun set.

Now, the moon replaced the sun as the sun rest, they both walked back to the castle, holding hands. And Y/N swears that she will not let go of Draco's hand again.
