*CHARLOTTE'S POV*
Edward drops me at my doorstep and leaves without coming in as he has some work to attend to. Today was also a long day for a particular reason but surprisngly, I am not very exhausted. I enter the living room but I don't see anyone in the house.
"Hello?" I call out but there is no reply for a couple of minutes. I notice a piece of paper attached to the refrigerator with a piece of magnet. Derek must have left it there to tell me where he has gone.
I go and take off the note which reads,
'Hey Charlotte, I have some work to attend to. I might come back around 5:30 or so. Hope you have a great afternoon. See you later. Yours Derek or Ollie's fuck buddy.'
I cringe as well as laugh at his last words. I keep the note on the table and take a packet of chips from the cabinet. Guess this is my lunch for today, which I will have to eat alone. I sit on the couch with a sigh and tear open my packet of chips. I turn on the television and start watching, 'Elite' on netflix.
Just as I am about to eat, something hits me. Both Edward and Derek said they have some business to attend to so, is that like a coincidence or not? My over thinking is getting worse, maybe due to hormones. Speaking of that, my period is late. God, I hope it's not before my date with Edward tomorrow.
Oh wow, I have a date tomorrow with Edward. I don't know what to wear and oh god, I will need to find something that is in between too fancy and too dull. Dates seem a lot of work so; I will need to call Ollie to help me out. It's Saturday so; the school will be off so, I can call Edward a bit earlier to tutor him and then call Ollie after he leaves to help me get ready. That will work.
I finish off my lunch quickly as I have a loads of homework to do, which I can't miss doing. I start off with my biology homework which is due tomorrow.
God, the assignments seem simple until you actually start doing them. No, I need to think positively. I can do this. It's simple; all I have to do is focus. I breathe deeply and start reading calmly.
Turns out being calm helps....like a lot. I check my phone to see the time and it's already 5 pm. There's still time before Edward comes and Derek also hasn't came yet. Just as I am about to call Derek, my phone starts ringing. I pick up on the third ring thinking I should pick it or not.
'Hey kiddo.'
'Hi mom.' I say in a light tone holding back my tears.
'First of all, are you okay?' Mom asks in a worried tone. Oh so now she is worried.
"And second of all?' I ask, unbothered by her first question, in a cold tone.
'Honey, I am so sorry that I didn't call you earlier. We just didn't have good service and not lying but we had too much work.'
'Yeah so what I've learnt so far from this conversation is that your "work" is more important to you than your daughter, who almost died.'
'Oh Charlotte I and your dad are very sorry for not being there for you. I know we haven't been the ideal parents but we're trying our best I assure you.'
'Yeah? I don't think it's going too well.' I say bitterly.
'I know it isn't. But I couldn't bear the thought of losing you. I begged your father to get me back to you but we couldn't because our passports are with the police.' This makes me baffle.
'What? Why?' I ask in a state of confusion.
'Yes. The firm we were supposed to work with pressed fake charges against us due to some issues and now the government has seized our passports.' Whoa, now I just feel....stupid.
