✦Diluc left you standing there.
You were alone with your thoughts, which was bad. Your mind was being clouded with as much reasons as you could possibly think of for what he wanted to discuss with you, and none of them were good.
4 words.
It's those 4 words that are almost always bound to let anyone down. At least anyone is going to feel a twinge of worry in the back of their head.
Your breath grew heavier, as you were finding it hard to catch air. You put a hand over your chest as you mentally counted, slowly inhaling, and exhaling.
Now you have to go back, sit next to him, and pretend like you're not about to have an anxiety attack.
After you went and ordered Kaeya's dish, you returned back to the table. But instead of sitting down, you whispered something to Aether and Paimon. Paimon sort of whined, but still did it because it was for you.
She moves off, and floats to sit in your spot, between Kaeya and Diluc. As for you, you take Paimon's previous seat and sit next to Aether.
Diluc felt like someone had just shot an arrow straight threw his heart. But he understands that you didn't want to sit next to him.
Kaeya for some reason never got his order.
── •✧• ──
After Diluc had somehow managed to get Kaeya to leave, the Traveler and his trusty companion also said their goodbyes. Diluc had closed the tavern early for privacy, leaving only you and him left; The silence was consuming.
He was the first one to speak. "Thank you for staying," he says while walking over to the bar.
You replied with a quiet 'sure' as you fidgeted with your hands.Diluc sighed. He doesn't want to hurt you. He already knows your sensitive, and he can't help but worry for how you might react.
"Y/n... about last night," he hesitates.
Oh no, you know where this is going.
Diluc takes a second for himself before he speaks again. He's not a man of relationships, he's never even been in one before. What was he thinking?
Impulsively, he turns his back coldly on you and crosses his arms.
"It was a mistake, and it shouldn't have happened."
There it is. He said it. There's no taking it back.
But with every word he said, the more regret he felt. But he forced those feelings down, and he talked without a care in his voice."Y/n, everything occurred too quickly and..." At this point, your brain began muffle whatever he was saying.
Does he not care about what you want?
You willingly gave yourself to him, he treated you so well, giving you sweet experience for your first time — and this is what does afterwards?
Your heart shattered. But what hurt you even more, is that he won't even look at you. And the more he kept talking, the sicker you felt in your stomach.
"I expect you to understand, and I think it'd be best if we keep things neutral." Diluc reluctantly stated. You placed a hand over heart, collectively trying to keep it together.
"D-Did last night.... mean nothing to you?" Your voice couldn't help but slightly quiver. Diluc's eyes widened upon hearing how hurt you sounded, but he still kept his back turned. And yet, he didn't respond, which you interpreted your question to be true.
Your throat burned from the lump building up, and the tears you tried to swallow. You cursed at yourself for being so naive, to think someone like him would actually want something more with someone like you. But another part of you felt angry for it, as if he'd just played you the entire time. Yet, you can't hate him. It's his decision. And as much as you want to ask him 'why?', even if it means you'd have to argue, you kept quiet. You're better than that, and you respect him.
After all, it's not like you guys are together.
Diluc waited for your response. You felt overwhelmed by your emotions; you needed to get out of here, before you could possibly start having an emotional meltdown. You faced the door, in case he were to turn around to look at you and tried to sound as normal as possible.
"I understand...." You said quietly. He had no chance to respond, as he had already heard you leave the tavern. He remained in his same position and let out a sigh. He placed a hand on his temple, the stress of the situation was causing him a migraine.
'It's for the best.' He thought; everything did happen too fast. Diluc believes that relationships are a "waste of time", and being together would also mean putting you at risk of the Fatui. Word would spread quickly, and they would most likely find a way to use you against him. He just can't risk it.
Once you stepped out of that door, the feelings of distress came crashing down upon you. You felt used. You felt mad. You felt hurt, all at once, and it was too much for you.
You placed a hand over your chest, feeling as it was tightening. The beat of your heart rang in your ears, being the only thing you could hear. Your breath grew short, and you took a look around you. It was the early evening. The city, the lights, and the people around you were becoming a blur, turning into faint shapes and colors.
Your legs felt weak. Feeling dizzy, and lightheaded, you stumbled onto the table next to you. The impact had knocked down a few table decors onto the floor. Diluc steps out once he heard the sudden commotion, immediately recognizing the situation, and rushes towards you.
He gently grabs your hand, while he places another one on your arm. "Y/n, breathe," he reassures you. However, only the words of him saying it was a mistake kept replaying inside your head. You hadn't even realized he was in front of you, until he had gently guided your head to look up at him. The only thing that mattered to him right now was your well-being, and nothing else.
However, he only made things worse.
Diluc kept trying to calm you down, but your hyperventilating only got worse. What he didn't understand, is that sometimes what you needed was space. In this case, you needed space from him.
You weakly removed his hand from your chin whilst trying to push him back. "S-Stop." You struggled to say. Diluc was taken aback, but he still tried calming you down.
"You're not helping," As if right on cue, Lisa shows up with Amber. People were beginning to stare and whisper at you guys as she made her way towards you. "Y/n, follow my voice, focus on my voice."
Diluc begrudgingly backs up. Lisa took your hand and placed it on your lower ribcage. This way, you were able to concentrate, and feel your breathing. "Amber, keep Y/n's hand in place, and encourage her to breathe slowly." Lisa says. Amber quickly is done as told, and Lisa turns to Diluc.
"You need to leave Master Diluc." Lisa says.
"Excuse me, but- "
"Listen, I don't know what happened between the two of you, but it seems as if you're only making things worse." Lisa cuts him off. "I'm sorry, but you must leave." She continues. Diluc hesitates and looks over at you. Your breathing was better, but Amber was still helping you.
He didn't want to leave you alone at this state. But if he must, he will. "...Alright. Just...please let me know if anything else occurs."
Diluc takes one final look at you, and leaves.
